Kick It Up A Notch. Take the sniff test. Is that stale smell you? Inspired by: Julie Mehretu’s Paintings. March 28, 2010 in Inspired By. Art 21: Art in the Twenty-first Century. I’ve admired Julie Mehretu’s work for some time now, but I’m sitting up and taking more notice since I read an article about her, Abstract: The Art World. In the most recent issue of. I’m looking forward to watching the PBS series, Art 21: Art in the Twenty-first Century. Did you remember Earth Hour. Subscribers in our building, ...

Milieu: Hello Spring, Farewell Friend | Kick It Up A Notch
https://kickitupanotch.wordpress.com/2010/04/11/milieu-hello-spring-farewell-friend
Kick It Up A Notch. Take the sniff test. Is that stale smell you? Milieu: Hello Spring, Farewell Friend. April 11, 2010 in Milieu. Gritty in the city. Like the weather lately, the past week has been schizophrenic. For me. Handsome Hunk and I took advantage of the great weather to explore the city. Last weekend and soak up some spring, snapping a few photos of buildings and grit along the way. On Easter Sunday at sunrise, my book club friend Claudia died. I have a pile of new little baby and toddler cloth...

Sunday, April 28, 2013. More Studio Turf Wars - Gallery Version. Blythe Hager self-portrait landscape meets topiary fairie mural from 10 years ago, freshly mounted on board. There was also a little bit of spraying action, but art was removed from the studio/gallery for that. This work looks really interesting. Would love to see closer shots. April 28, 2013 at 8:17 PM. April 28, 2013 at 8:31 PM. April 28, 2013 at 9:57 PM. I was going to say the same thing. Im just now making the rounds in the blogosphere.

Rocktown, Indiana: March 2014

Thursday, March 13, 2014. Deep Life Indy #1. 431 Gallery, Indianapolis, 1984. For a couple years, art opening crowds would overflow and block the sidewalks. During the ISM exhibit, I will be showing some paintings at Indy Reads. Until now, I was oblivious to the obvious - that the Indy Reads venue is on Massachusetts Avenue, just a few blocks from the old arts area. The entire MassAve is now designated the arts district, but is mostly retail, dining, and pubs. It's easy to forget the past.

Rocktown, Indiana: March 2013
http://rocktownindiana.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 11, 2013. I spent a good portion of the 1990s justifying my work as an artist, especially as a painter, to myself. It was a moral dilemma; a question of validity and purpose. How can I indulge something with such intangible meaning and value? The continuation of human existence is quickly becoming less of a given. The most recent climate measurements and projections are dire beyond belief. And the worst-case scenarios are looking less and less speculative. While Rome Burns -. I think I've u...

Rocktown, Indiana: April 2012

Monday, April 23, 2012. Forget everything I've been saying, and just read this. This recent Katherine Bradford. Review by John Yau (Hyperallergic blog). Sums up so much. It's insightful, concise, and even has a conglomerate dissing of Eric Fischl, Celine Dion, and Tiger Woods. It's important to note that it is the nature in which this group of painters are working, that I find fascinating, and that resonates with me. It's not simply a kinship of clan, or of sameness. Rocktown, Indiana: May 2014
http://rocktownindiana.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2014. Deep Life Indy # 3. I've made multiple attempts to write about the Indianapolis art scene of the past 30 years. This as prequel to the upcoming panel discussions which will accompany the 431 Gallery. Shows I even wrote about giving up on trying to write about it. That turned into a long bit too, and is pointless to post. Bottom line, that's it. No more critiquing local art stuff. Subversion is still on the table. Links to this post. Friday, May 2, 2014. Rocktown, Indiana: Deep Life Indy #2
http://rocktownindiana.blogspot.com/2014/05/deep-life-indy-ii.html
Friday, May 2, 2014. Deep Life Indy #2. In our first meetings, we grilled Bill about the name, specifically, about the “forum” requirements. Just what do we have to do? What sort of forum? Bill kept explaining that it was informal, no expectations, just that we get together and talk about art.We still didn't get it. Finally, an exasperated Bill threw his hands up and said, “You don't have to talk about art, it's just to present ourselves as a group who talks about art! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
