B, D and the Boys: MOTHER EARTH
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/07/mother-earth.html
Sunday, 15 July 2012. Time is of the essence, so this must be a very swift process. Women pick off cherries which are discolored, disfigured, etc. The best cherries are then placed in a large washing tank (the best ones sink, the worst ones float). They are then directed to the de-pulper, which removes the cherry skin from the coffee bean. Most of the materials in these pieces are found or recycled. They use local plants, dies, seeds and even un-do rice sacks for the coloured fibers. 16 July 2012 at 00:45.

B, D and the Boys: Kigali Street Kidz Album Goes Public
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/08/kigali-street-kidz-album-goes-public.html
Friday, 24 August 2012. Kigali Street Kidz Album Goes Public. Here is how it went down. We made a list of the groups with songs, and I recorded them one at a time in the nearby cowshed with a portable MP3 recorder while they sang to the rhythm of a metronome on my phone. I arranged and posted these vocal recordings on soundcloud. 01 ubuzima twabayemo (produced by Cisum) by Gisiment Boys
. 02 ababana bumuhanda (produced by ash.OK) by True Boys
. 10 reggae (produced by Dave Clayton) by Lucky

B, D and the Boys: Beyond the Facade
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/06/beyond-facade.html
Sunday, 24 June 2012. Willy and I emerged into bright sunlight and were greeted by the crowd of mocking and snickering faces. I gave the people the best ice-cold stare I could muster as we pushed through them. Willy and I walked off without looking back and passed a machine-gun toting policeman on his way to the scene. Once we were out of sight, we shook hands in sheer joy. We had accomplished something never before done. For always contributing their music without question to any of our projects. Thanki...

B, D and the Boys: No Rabbits in Hip Hop
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/05/no-rabbits-in-hip-hop.html
Sunday, 13 May 2012. No Rabbits in Hip Hop. Charity is a good thing. Well, at least it usually begins with good intentions. Since we have come to Africa, we have seen many examples of feel-good charitable acts gone wrong. We believe there is a simple solution to this, but we will get to that at the end of this post. This weekend we finished the library! What is the solution? The point is, you don't know for sure unless you are here. A film project that helped inspire us to make this trip, and we beli...

B, D and the Boys: Everything Is Rolling On Peanuts
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/05/everything-is-rolling-on-peanuts.html
Sunday, 20 May 2012. Everything Is Rolling On Peanuts. Bret and I got a little contemplative last week. However, we kept our energy levels high and it has not stopped us from ploughing right through this week. We struggled to keep up with signing all of the items in and out in our logbook. Apart from the gamers who wanted to open each game just to have a look, there were also artists – quiet and contemplative – who sat around one table colouring and happily sharing pencils and crayons. Because we had 12 ...

B, D and the Boys: Day in the EDD Life
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/06/day-in-edd-life.html
Sunday, 10 June 2012. Day in the EDD Life. Dorota and I are finishing off this post as we are about to head out for a goodbye dinner with our friend Paul ( his website. Meanwhile at Les Enfants de Dieu, things have continued to improve. The overall mood of the staff and children has been happy, and we can feel this every time we come to the center. Even the tedious daily chores haven't been able to crush the boys' spirits. The boys have developed their own gambling culture as well, and marbles have becom...

B, D and the Boys: The Harsh Realities
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/06/harsh-realities.html
Sunday, 17 June 2012. Since the boys started "Bret Record Studio" at the centre, recording has become all the craze with them. Every day I am greeted by newly-formed groups who have a song they want to record. So far there have been Time Boyz, Empire State, Angel Boys, Talent Boys, T.Y.J., Drago and Young Shooter, Lucky, Gisiment Boys, Jean Paul, Hope Choir and True Boys (shown below). How can we possibly record in a shed in Africa and have the tracks produced across the sea in America you ask? Don't wor...

B, D and the Boys: Focus on Life
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/06/focus-on-life.html
Tuesday, 5 June 2012. It finally happened. Dorota and I are late with our weekly blog post. We have an excuse though. For the first time since we came to Rwanda 8 weeks ago, we left Kigali on a weekend road trip. Our photographer friend Paul Eggleston. Arrived from the UK, so we packed up our cameras and headed off to Butare in the south. 6 June 2012 at 06:06. Bret, Dorota, Paul, Willy, great post and again a great glimpse at Rwandan life and spirit. I shared the Yes, Man! Film with someone I met at a se...

B, D and the Boys: Thank You Until Next Time
http://bdandtheboys.blogspot.com/2012/09/thank-you-until-next-time.html
Thursday, 6 September 2012. Thank You Until Next Time. Sadness was my shadow that week. It was overwhelming and exhausting. All of the days were filled to the brim with activities and things to sort out. Maybe this is why I had not completely fallen apart emotionally, because of the adrenaline, the rush of getting things done before our departure. More on this in our last post. Throughout this adventure we had support from our friends and family back in the Western world. They followed our blog and s...
