Ommegang Brewery | Three Eyed Raven 7.2% ABV – brewnette
http://brewnette.co/2015/06/08/ommegang-brewery-three-eyed-raven-7-2-abv
Ommegang Brewery Three Eyed Raven 7.2% ABV. Scroll down to see more content. This brew pours a nearly opaque black, tastes very smooth despite its complexity, and and smells of candied fruit. It’s also a fairly full bodied ale with very high carbonation and head retention. The Belgian yeast flavor I detected most was winter spices like those in mulled wine, clove or allspice. Hop bitterness was not prominent for me but seemed earthy and noble. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.

Alpine Beer Company Captain Stout 6% ABV. Captain Stout has a nice, big, roasty flavor and strong espresso character. Esters are mostly dark fruit, maybe raisin, but very low and I found the hop bitterness earthy and understated. I’m not certain what kind of hops went into this but they’re grassy or herbal in character and they play very well with the … Continue reading Alpine Beer Company Captain Stout 6% ABV. Speakeasy Ales Big Daddy IPA 6.5%. Big Daddy IPA pours an opaque amber with high head retention. The west coast IPA bitterness is apparent up front but the hoppiness is more subdued than other beers in this style. While there are pretty high and somewhat sweet citrus and tropical esters, the piney hops balance this and give Big Daddy a nice … Continue reading Speakeasy Ales Big Daddy IPA 6.5%. Mike Hess Brewing | Grazias Cream Ale 5.4% – brewnette
http://brewnette.co/2015/06/01/mike-hess-brewing-grazias-cream-ale-5-4
Mike Hess Brewing Grazias Cream Ale 5.4%. Scroll down to see more content. I’m happy to bring you all another San Diego gem, this time from Mike Hess Brewing Co. This dark red beauty has clean molasses malts and a touch of sweetness and white, fluffy lacing. Its juicy ester flavors are varied, featuring stone fruits and maybe berries? I’m very pleased to have tried this one because my first Mike Hess brew was a rye IPA and I’m not terribly fond of rye brews. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

In Praise of Rhubarb. In Praise of Rhubarb. July 31, 2015. Rhubarb means summer. Summer in the 12 year-old, off-of-school, complete freedom sense. Summer in the sleep-in, wake-to-warm-sunshine, go-play-in-the-field sort of way. When I was 12, we lived on forty acres of prairie grasses and wild flowers, bordered on two sides by a slow flowing river, which would sparkle like gold in the setting sun. We also had a garden with a gooseberry plant. Has become popular. Why not rhubarb? We simmered diced rhubarb...
