When they arrived in Hollywood from Idaho in 1934, Meda enrolled the girls in the state school. This would have been perfectly satisfactory, if only the school authorities had permitted their pupils to have time off for their professional needs. This was a problem for the Brians, and had been a problem for many other children beforehand. Needless to say, there was a solution - at a price. In 1942 the Brian Sisters made a short 'soundie' film with the Will Osborne Orchestra as a Halloween special. This was The Boogie Woogie Man. In which the girls, now all teenagers, dress as little girls to help the film, but look a bit incongruous. They perform very well though! They fidget around to emulate fear; very effective! Of 3rd October 1942 we are told that Connie Haines and the Brian Sisters are vocalists on the new Coast-to-Coast series, Nathan Scott Presents. So far no episodes are available.

By 1944 the Brian Sisters had grown up. They had been broadcasting to and appearing for the troops during the War, but nothing remains of this, it seems. In 1944 they were reaching the end of their career together. Betty married in the following year and the trio ceased to exist. But all is not lost - in 1944 they appeared in the film Beautiful But Broke. Singing right through Just Another Blues. And fitting right into the film's requirement for a mature singing group - kiddies no longer. Long Time No See.

In 1935 the Brian Sisters had only recently arrived in Hollywood with their mother, Meda. They were appearing in clubs, where their singing skills were well received. The only recording of them in this year is their first film, Our Gang Follies of 1936. In 1935 the girls were 11, 8 and 7 (or thereabouts). To hear the perfect harmony and delivery of their singing together at such an early age must have been delightful. The most extreme example of this was surely in High School. Back to Previous Page.
