Gretchen Hancock's Paintings: White Cup Stack and Five Cherries
https://gretchenhancock.blogspot.com/2015/06/white-cup-stack-and-five-cherries.html
Sunday, June 7, 2015. White Cup Stack and Five Cherries. Sweet dark cherries are in the store now and I have to paint them while they are in season. I really enjoy their shiny surfaces. The color of the reflection in the cherries is actually rather dark; a mix of the local color of the cherry (dark red), the additional darkness from the shadow, and a bit cool white from the tabletop. Labels: 6 x 6 oil on panel. June 8, 2015 at 4:11 AM. June 8, 2015 at 6:43 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Gretchen Hancock's Paintings: The Burn and Fireweed
https://gretchenhancock.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-burn-and-fireweed.html
Saturday, August 8, 2015. The Burn and Fireweed. A familiar site in the interior in Alaska. An area burned by fire, but showing new growth with pink blossoms of fireweed. I like the pink patches and the dark area of spruce trunks in the distance. This one will be in a show in Anchorage at the ArtiqueLtd Gallery in September. Labels: 8 x 10 oil on panel. Beautiful companion to Hillside Fireweed! Weve had a few fires here in Oregon and see similar landscapes. Love how you interpret them!

Gretchen Hancock's Paintings: Two Ferries at Sunset
https://gretchenhancock.blogspot.com/2015/04/two-ferries-at-sunset.html
Thursday, April 9, 2015. Two Ferries at Sunset. Another ferry painting. This time two ferries are tied up at the north end ferry dock on Vashon. It's late afternoon and the hillside is mostly in shadow; just a bit of orange sunlight hits the top of the hill and lights up the side of the ferry. The pinkness of the light is reflected in the water below. 15" x 12" oil on panel. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Would you like to get my latest paintings emailed to you about twice a week?

Gretchen Hancock's Paintings: Beach Ripples Ninilchik
https://gretchenhancock.blogspot.com/2015/07/beach-ripples-ninilchik.html
Friday, July 24, 2015. Cook Inlet has large razor clams, wide sandy beaches and extreme tides. I spent one summer at a set-net site not far from here. I liked the ripples on the beach and wanted to convey the idea but still keep it loose. I was very interested in the feel of the gray beach and the distant bit of blue sky. https://gretchenhancock.blogspot.com/2015/05/purple-chives.html
Saturday, May 30, 2015. Two tall white globe allium are towering over a patch of purple chives in my flower garden. Since these are perennial, they are among the first flowers of spring. Painted from photos I took in my garden. This one is large-ish - 24" x 30". Labels: 24 x 30 oil on canvas. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Gretchen Hancock's Paintings: Hillside Fireweed
https://gretchenhancock.blogspot.com/2015/08/hillside-fireweed.html
Tuesday, August 4, 2015. A painting of a hillside covered with fireweed in bloom. Fireweed thrives in disturbed soil and burned areas and is one of the first plants to reestablish after a forest fire. I like the mix of saturated and less saturated colors. This one will be in a show at Artique Ltd Gallery in Anchorage in September. Labels: 9 x 12 oil on panel. August 5, 2015 at 5:23 AM. Thanks for sharing this. ). August 6, 2015 at 11:12 PM. Loved the colors and great brushwork. August 7, 2015 at 10:55 AM.

Gretchen Hancock's Paintings: Opening Daffodils
https://gretchenhancock.blogspot.com/2015/04/opening-daffodils.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Spring has been early and this is the last of the field daffodils from the supermarket, though we still have many other varieties in our yard. I can't resist these, they are so inexpensive and such a glorious riot of yellow. I painted this with a cool dark gray background, but when it was done I added yellow ochre to the still wet gray to warm it up and make it all more harmonious. Your ferry series is VERY special.
