What happens at the Community Centre? July has been so busy…. On Jul 26, 2015 in About us. July has brought us not the best of weather but it’s still been full force ahead with fun and activities for all the community and visitors. The only thing that has suffered due to the weather is our beach days but we managed to get one in and a bonfire night at the wharf both which were well attended. Looking forward to a warmer August. What happens at the Community Centre? Was created in 1999 as a result of community groups and activists banding together to transform the abandoned elementary school building into a vibrant community resource centre. We are a not for profit organisation but we accept donations. Nestled at the Northern most tip of Cape Breton Island between the Gulf of St Lawrence and the Highland Mountains, the Community Centre is located centrally in the small rural fishing community of Bay St. Lawrence.

Come out to our annual fright night on Sunday October 26th at 6pm for our haunted house, treats, storytelling, and fireworks! On Aug 2, 2013 in About us. After graduating from University, I moved to New York City for a year and became immersed in a world of community gardens and squatters. And then, quite abruptly, in 1999, I moved home to northern Cape Breton and became a fisherman. In a community that has little else by the way of social services or infrastructure, we dreamed big.
