Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: December 2006
http://allergymusings.blogspot.com/2006_12_01_archive.html
Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Tuesday, December 19, 2006. The sinus infection that never went away. After years of dealing with what I thought was mild hay fever and then getting acquainted with a fatal food allergy, I figured I was finally under control. In February 2005 I "became aware" of the fact that I suffered from a stuffy nose almost all the time, or at least while indoors. I joked with my boss and fiancee that my chronic sinus infection and I were about to celebra...

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: April 2011

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Saturday, April 02, 2011. You have to be careful. I have to try and post a bit more often here. Fortunately things have been fairly quiet on the allergy front, though I still live with the fear of accidentally ingesting pine nuts (I wish I had come to know what they were like prior to developing the allergy). Things gradually got worse, and it was at that point I asked someone if they had any Benadryl. Of course I had a TwinJect with me, b...

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: November 2006
http://allergymusings.blogspot.com/2006_11_01_archive.html
Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Wednesday, November 29, 2006. All goes well until about a year ago. This brings us to early December 2005. When my meal arrived I cut a small chunk of chicken off to give it a taste before digging into the veggies. Who doesn't have a mother who has lectured their sons or daughters on the merits of eating their vegetables? Looking at my glass of water, I took the approach of diluting any possible pine nuts making their way down to my stomach...

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: June 2006
http://allergymusings.blogspot.com/2006_06_01_archive.html
Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Thursday, June 15, 2006. It all started long ago. I'm 31 years old and I have lived with allergies for most of my life. or at least most of my life that I can remember! I remember undergoing tests downtown that must have confirmed my mother's suspicions that I suffered from the same hayfever symptoms she had for years. Posted by Michael Mason at 8:14 PM. Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: August 2006

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Tuesday, August 22, 2006. It wasn't cross-contamination - what could it be? So the doctor suggested that I might have been the victim of bad kitchen maintenance or hygiene. I chalked the somewhat major (at the time) incident to bad luck and nothing more. This was the first time I reacted to food I had injested and hopefully it would be my last. Two more tests. two more ambiguous results. What was I to do? Posted by Michael Mason at 9:01 PM.

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: October 2006
http://allergymusings.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Friday, October 27, 2006. Enough time passed and I was convinced that I would survive another meal. I told my girlfriend (who turned out to be my future wife) that I would no longer go to any restaurants with her until after I figured out once and for all what it was that was triggering the increasingly serious reactions. Fortunately, she agreed. Wanted to do it one more time! What the heck is a pine nut! But now it was clear - shellfish could...

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: September 2006

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Friday, September 29, 2006. I need to see a doctor - NOW! Just before their arrival I came to the conclusion that this "attack" was worse than any other I had experienced in the past. My reaction to that was a thought that Benadryl likely wouldn't be enough to stop it. It turns out I was right. And immediately told the nurse who was dealing with another patient that I needed to see a doctor and I needed to see him or her now. Two more tests an...

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: July 2006

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Monday, July 10, 2006. On the road to discovering anaphylaxis. So I learned early on that I would suffer from hayfever for the rest of my life. Sure, I could subject myself to a regimen of shots over a period of years that could "cure" me, but I'd rather jump off a cliff without a parachute. or so I thought. My first contribution to this particular blog points out that I'm 31 years old. When I was in elementary school 25 years ago (sheesh!

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too!: May 2007

Living with allergies: the "simple" ones and anaphylaxis too! Tuesday, May 29, 2007. Pharmacists - can't live without 'em. It worked like a charm. Not quite this time. Or so I thought. I got home from a golf game on Saturday afternoon to a message from the grocery store pharmacy near where I live. Naturally, I called back as soon as I could. The clerk (or pharmacist's assistant? My second attempt to get a clear response was met with a "I don't know what the expiry date will be on a new one". Of cours...
