http://81degreesnorth.blogspot.com/2010/09/august-17th-north-shore-of-svalbard.html
81 Degrees North and the Land of the Midnight Sun. August 17th - Monacobreen - north shore of Svalbard. We moored in Monacobreen, a fjord with lots of ice floating in the water and several glaciers. We were in the second group of Zodiacs to leave the ship and we heard that one of the first Zodiacs had seen a polar bear, albeit in the distance. Our Zodiac was driven by Christian and our guide was Sue Flood. As we got nearer to the glacier, we saw some calving taking place but it was a long way away. Eugen...

http://81degreesnorth.blogspot.com/2010/09/august-15th-81-degrees-north.html
81 Degrees North and the Land of the Midnight Sun. August 15th - Sail north to 81 degrees. We woke in the morning as the boat headed more or less due north and away from Svalbard to meet the pack ice. We passed the last of the most northerly islands of Svalbard shrouded in cloud and surrounded by ice at around 7.30am. We went on to the bow to watch the ship making its way through the ever increasing floes of ice. We then went to a lecture on Polar Bears by Robin Aiello which was interesting and entertain...

In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica: November 14th - Buenos Aires to Ushuaia
http://shackletonoa.blogspot.com/2008/11/noember-14th-buenos-aires.html
In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 14th - Buenos Aires to Ushuaia. We were up at 4.30am for the 7.10 charter flight to Ushuaia. We met some of the other Silversea passengers - a lot of Americans, some British, some Australians and a couple from Mexico. Looking down on Buenos Aires as we headed south for Ushuaia. At Ushuaia airport our bags were taken straight to the ship, while we were all taken on a bus tour round the town. Our guide was Eugenia, a charming 25-year old local girl. Mar 2007...

In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 18th - At Sea to South Georgia. We had breakfast with Emily and Jim Thurber, retired diplomats from California and very pleasant interesting people. We then had a lecture from Juan from Colombia on how the earth was formed. Up on deck, fore and aft, we could see many Cape Petrels and black-browed albatross. Some people on the front of the ship saw whales, but they quickly disappeared. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Adventure Drives 2001 - 2011. Mar 20...

In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica: November 23rd - At sea to Elephant Island
http://shackletonoa.blogspot.com/2008/11/november-23rd-at-sea-to-elephant-island.html
In Search of Shackleton and Antarctica. November 23rd - At sea to Elephant Island. We arrived at South Orkneys after another rough night. We were not able to get close to Monroe Island because of the conditions, and so we headed for Shingle Cove on Coronation Island. Whenever we looked outside we saw huge icebergs. Many were beautifully sculptured by the wind and the waves. At the briefing, Robin told us about the plans for tomorrow. We are hoping to land on Elephant Island, where Shackleton's men we...
