Cultivating Paradise: April 2014
http://cultivatingparadise.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Gardening in Deep South Texas. Tuesday, April 22, 2014. I wasn't quick enough to get a picture, but yesterday morning, a cardinal was perched in one of these tiny trees. As I watched, it fluttered over and checked out two others. Maybe we won't have to wait another 10 or 15 years after all. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Cultivating Paradise: Stunning Butterfly Host
http://cultivatingparadise.blogspot.com/2014/06/stunning-butterfly-host.html
Gardening in Deep South Texas. Saturday, June 21, 2014. When I say stunning, I'm not talking about the heliconus butterflies but instead their host plant, Passion Vine or May-pops. There are many varieties of passion vine and this one is Passiflora incarnata. It's leaf has three lobes and it's flower is a stunning purple and white beauty. Must be a gift from God. Cultivating Paradise: August 2013
http://cultivatingparadise.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Gardening in Deep South Texas. Friday, August 23, 2013. I have admired this parking lot filled with California and Mexican Fan Palms (. Respectively) for a number of years. Most of the palms have heavy trunks and the inflorescence is super long and oh so gorgeous. You can see the difference between the Mexican fan on the left and the California fan on the right. Although I’ve never read this, it seems like the California fans have MUCH longer inflorescence (that’s the bloom stems). Links to this post.

Cultivating Paradise: June 2014
http://cultivatingparadise.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
Gardening in Deep South Texas. Wednesday, June 25, 2014. There are lots of perennials that are great for arrangements, but I don't put them here because we rotate the vegetable crops and that would impede that a bit. I have found that when it's hot outside, it is best to pick flowers and herbs in the morning. They've had overnight to rest and recuperate from the stress of the summer heat. Links to this post. Cultivating Paradise: November 2013
http://cultivatingparadise.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Gardening in Deep South Texas. Friday, November 22, 2013. Arbor Day in November? At my home we've just removed a couple of large, old, rotting (tr)ash trees. I've been pushing my husband to remove them for ten years now and he finally relented. We will miss their shade next summer so we are trying to decide what to plant there. Links to this post. Cultivating Paradise: Bird List
http://cultivatingparadise.blogspot.com/p/bird-list.html
Gardening in Deep South Texas. These are the birds that we have sighted on our less than 2 acre property since 2000. The order used is from "A Checklist of the Birds of Harlingen, Texas and the Rio Grande Valley". We watched and recorded regularly the first few years. Now, we rarely go get a field guide and try to identify the exact species. Plover (couldn't identify which type). Peacock (escapee from we don't know where). Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
