Alfons Johann was taken prisoner in May, 1943 in Tunisia. He arrived in America and was sent to the Bena, Minnesota Branch Camp where he worked in the forest cutting lumber. Following his time in America, Johann also worked in Great Britain and in camps in occupied Germany. He did not return to his home until 1947, where he found work with the German Railway as a switch master. Below is an account of the Johann family's responses to life in Nazi Germany. Alfred Mueller

Alfred Mueller was taken prisoner by British forces in Tunisia in 1943. He was transferred to American custody and shipped to America on a Liberty ship, arriving at Newport News, Virginia. After an overland trip by train to the Midwest, Mueller spent time in POW camps in Indianola and Algona, Iowa, and Greeley, Colorado.
