Water | Cascadia Earthquake: impacts and preparation

https://cascadiaearthquake.org/2015/12/05/water

December 5, 2015. Among your top priorities. Without it, you won’t last a few days. If you have a potable water source, reserve it for drinking and cooking. Toilet tank (not the bowl). Ice from your freezer. Treatment – UV, iodine, filtration, boiling. Storage – rainwater barrel, bottles, bathtub. Stock up on treatment supplies (variety is best). Maintain a year-round water source (rainwater barrel, etc.). Store potable water at home (bottled, packs, jugs, etc.). Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Transportation | Cascadia Earthquake: impacts and preparation

December 7, 2015. Roads will be damaged, so your own vehicle will be of limited use, therefore no Uber/Lyft/Sidecar, and no taxis. Motorcycles could probably get by. Public transportation will certainly not be available – no bus, train, or ferry. Emergency services will not be able to reach you either. Most likely, we’ll be limited to walking and bicycling. Procurement of goods and services (water, food, medical). Checking on family and friends. Motorcycle (if roads aren’t blocked by debris). You are com...

Shelter-in-place checklist | Cascadia Earthquake: impacts and preparation

https://cascadiaearthquake.org/2015/12/07/shelter-in-place-checklist

December 7, 2015. No one can adequately prepare for a disaster of this magnitude, but with some forethought and planning, the recovery process becomes much more manageable. Plan on 3 days without assistance. Water – 3 gallons/day per person for drinking, cooking, cleaning. Water treatment (iodine, filters, UV, boiling, etc.). Food – 2000 calories/day per person. Freeze dried food packets. Pantry snacks – granola bars, dried fruit, jerky, etc. Portable stove and fuel. Sanitation – you need a bathroom.
