September 19, 2006 at 2:52 am ( Uncategorized. Our first stop, after our full Irish breakfast, was back down the hill to get a picture of Dr. Bob. The owners weren’t around, so we just sauntered in through the opulent rooms full of antiques, oriental carpets and original oil paintings. Trusting souls. We found Dr. Bob, and he obliged us by posing in his kitchen in front of his warm Aga stove. I love the Irish. On the way to Roundstone, I stopped at the Connemara Smokehouse in Ballyconneely and bought som...

September 13, 2006 at 1:13 am ( Uncategorized. I was born on a storm swept rock and hate the soft growth of sun baked lands where there is no frost in men’s bones can’t remember the poet, but that is the way Mary and I feel about Ireland. We don’t need tropical islands. Give us the brisk Irish sea air. October 13, 2006 at 2:20 pm. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. 16 September (Mary’s Birthday Dream Come True). September 16, 2006 at 2:49 am ( Uncategorized. The angels never visit Ireland that they don’t stop by the Arans. If Ireland is intriguing as being an island off the west of Europe, then Aran, as an island off the west of Ireland, is still more so; it is Ireland raised to the power of two. Tim Robins in the introduction to The Aran Islands. Is that Irish for Happy Birthday? Inquired her Mom. You talk about contrite. The seat was the worst thing. My J....

September 15, 2006 at 2:45 am ( Uncategorized. Lord no, one of Nelly is a gracious plenty. I would have probably ended up in jail. A helicopter delivered some guest to the front of the castle as Nelly and her Mom revisited the entrance hall. The chauffeur awaited them in the car. At Ballyvara House, we were met by a young girl serving as unofficial hostess, Itchy her wonder dog and three old donkeys. I love donkeys. Next to Pugs, of course. O the little donkeys. The pretty, gentle donkeys. The young girl...

September 14, 2006 at 1:56 am ( Uncategorized. Our rooms were ready when we finished. Bunratty Castle Hotel is a bit pricey, but the big, quilted bed had starched Irish linen sheets. Heaven. We were asleep in minutes and did not awake until about 1300. This was the first of world class sleeps we enjoyed in the next few days. The purest air in the world is in Ireland. Pollution is a foreign word there. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here. Address never made public).

20 September (We’re coming, Louie). September 20, 2006 at 2:56 am ( Uncategorized. Breakfast was not included and cost about $20 each, an unwitting contribution to the Celtic Tiger (note to self). Getting dressed I noted, I could have sworn I packed a clean tee shirt for each day. Oh, Mary replied, Nelly took one, at my insistence. She did it to me again. We breezed through customs, and Mary waved to her client, the Customs agent. We called Paul to pick us up. He arrived with Louie’s head stuck o...There...

September 19, 2006 at 2:55 am ( Uncategorized. Mary called Tommy back to tell him we had left a note and would call Tom from the States. Tommy told Mary, As I watched you walk away, I said to myself, ‘She is a Conneely alright. I know by the walk. I am sure we will see Tommy C again. We had miles to go and wanted to make sure we gave ourselves the time we would need in Galway to find the Family History Center. We started back along the beautiful road between the lakes and the12 Bens. Mary Bransford on 17...

17 September (with Mary nursing a rare once-per-decade hangover). September 17, 2006 at 2:50 am ( Uncategorized. At breakfast (Madam Chef had managed not to screw that up) Nelly had learned that there was a coastal road, twice as scenic and no where near as hilly. This was our route back. I don’t know whether she was trying to spare us the climb up the middle road or spare herself from watching her Mom and me go flying much too fast down the hill into the village on the last leg. Well, Doctor Bob was jus...
