Down the golden path | Centeraction
https://centeraction.wordpress.com/2011/10/15/down-the-golden-path
Down the golden path. October 15, 2011. A class I am taking on teaching narrative encourages us to think about the role stories play in the greater story of humanity. When we hear a story, what strikes us about it, why does it strike us, and what can we learn from it? I was thinking about these questions related to the folktale The Water of Life. The metaphor of the golden path hits me because the image of the prince riding down the center of the golden path recalls my own aspirations as a teacher, a stu...

October 10, 2011. I started practicing Aikido. In Alamosa, Colorado, on a wrestling mat spread out across a second-hand boxing gym. Humble beginnings, big ideas. It was here that my teacher first introduced me to the concepts of. The general objective of Aikido is to redirect the energy of an attack in a way that protects you and your attacker. There are two fundamental ways to do this: by entering into the attack (. Or blending with it (. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
Discovering street pianos | Centeraction
https://centeraction.wordpress.com/2011/10/22/34
October 22, 2011. I continue to look for the balance between technology and non-technology, so when I read this article by Guy Merchant. I continued searching, because now I wondered whether the artwork, which happened three years after the street piano, was inspired by it, or perhaps even done by the same person. A Google search led me to Flickr, where I caught a glimpse of the Sharrow Street piano. And felt a bit of reverence for fame. Then I was off to Wikipedia. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

November 10, 2011. I am not a computer programmer. Not even close. But I can’t stop telling every teacher I know about Scratch. And then this morning, after my husband left for work, I found the NY Times open to this article. About the use of Scratch (and another program called Alice. Which I have yet to investigate) in schools. He knows just what I want to read when I’m sipping my morning coffee. Brilliant! Tags: 21st century skills. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. The giggling iPhone | Centeraction
https://centeraction.wordpress.com/2011/10/12/the-giggling-iphone
October 12, 2011. Recently I read an op-ed in the NYTimes. Regarding the captivating sound of a ringing iPhone. Apparently, the noise is so pleasing that it triggers in our brains the same response as love. Its universal appeal, in fact, rivals that of a giggling infant. Upon hearing such news, my gut reaction is to nod my head, exclaim, “See! We are a part. So here’s the first thing: we want to feel connected. The internet allows connectedness at a pace and convenience never before known&#...In the same...

Just another WordPress.com site. Calvin’s First Day of School. August 26, 2013. On Calvin’s first day of Kindergarten I got a call from the principal of his elementary school. “Hi Mrs. Peterson? And now here was his principal calling. Had he gotten hurt? Was he at school crying for me? 8221; I wondered what Calvin thought about the whole thing. Was he embarrassed, ashamed or confused as I had been? I didn’t know. When he came home, tumbling sloppily down the bus stairs, his face still messy with food fro...
