The region from below the crust, all the way down to the Earth's outer core. Is called the mantle. Instead of fracturing, the mantle flows, because it is flexible. Sediment is loose material, such as bits of rocks, minerals, plants, and animals. Water, wind, and ice can move the sediment to a place where it settles, and whenever this happens, a new layer of sediment created. The layers of sedimentary rock are called beds, or stratas.
