Narrow Boat Chalice: Thames is magnificent, but very busy today
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2011/04/posted-by-alancath-last-night-we.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Friday, 22 April 2011. Thames is magnificent, but very busy today. Last night we finally got down to thinking about our options for the rest of the journey. Although we were sure we had probably caught up enough of the time lost over Alan's eye problems, there remained the thorny question about one particular stretch of the Thames which although only just over 5 miles long always places heavy constraints on the journey into London. Of course this stretch of t...

Narrow Boats SICKLE and FLAMINGO: May 2015
http://sickleandflamingo.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Narrow Boats SICKLE and FLAMINGO. Thursday, 28 May 2015. A Trip to Stoke Bruerne. Boat Flamingo - posted by Cath). We've been working on Flamingo on and off for weeks now, since we sold Chalice (except for various medical appointments and our trip to Rickmansworth with Sickle). We are making progress, but there is a lot to do, so any improvements seem small compared to the whole of what will eventually be needed. Stoke Bruerne, near the tunnel to avoid a long trip in reverse! We spent a fairly relaxed mo...

Narrow boats SICKLE and CHALICE: Back to two boats in single locks - and the duvet from hell.
http://sickleandchalice.blogspot.com/2014/09/back-to-two-boats-in-single-locks-and.html
Narrow boats SICKLE and CHALICE. Saturday, 6 September 2014. Back to two boats in single locks - and the duvet from hell. Boat Sickle and Chalice - posted by Alan / Cath). Very retrospective post for Tuesday 26th August. Waiting at Atherstone after we had caught up slower boats. We were well positioned to start off up Atherstone locks in the morning, but, as we were just getting going, a number of other boats wishing to do the same turned up. Hartshill depot - full of character but sadly neglected looking.

Narrow boats SICKLE and CHALICE: Another Chapter In Our Boating Story
http://sickleandchalice.blogspot.com/2014/12/another-chapter-in-our-boating-story.html
Narrow boats SICKLE and CHALICE. Monday, 22 December 2014. Another Chapter In Our Boating Story. Well it has finally happened , after lots of false starts, and one persistently less than serious "seller". We can now announce that our "new" (old) boat is "Large Northwich" "Flamingo", originally built for the Grand Union Canal Carrying Company as their "Letchworth" by the same builder as "Sickle", (W J Yarwood and Sons), and in the same year, (1936). It can be found here. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Narrow Boat Chalice: May 2010
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Monday, 31 May 2010. Rickmansworth to Kensal Green. Posted by Cath, using Alan's account). A grey and overcast day after yesterday. The alarm went off as usual at 7 am, and again, I had difficulty in surfacing from sleep. I've had a difficult couple of terms at work, and I'm falling asleep all over the place. Alan got up and took Charlie up the towpath for his first walk of the day, while I levered myself from bed and got dressed. Alan had wound the paddles a...

Narrow Boat Chalice: November 2009
http://chalicecruises.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Boating with our canal narrow boat "Chalice". Sunday, 15 November 2009. Once again apologies for my failure to post our boating 'adventures'. I've spent the last couple of weeks frantically trying to cope with the lack of one third of our small department. We have now recruited another teacher who knows one end of a computer from another, and I hope very much, that life will start to return to some degree of normality. Berries by a lock in Berkhamsted. Chalice at Dudswell, only a few locks from 'home'.
