A journey through Peace Corps: Cambodia. And I’ll smile and agree with her. I didn’t really think much of these little exchanges until a few weeks ago when my aunt was sitting around shooting the breeze over mangos with me and a bunch of other staff at the health center. One of the staff asked my aunt how my youngest sister was doing and she said,. Being called something that’s the societal equivalent of ugly? June 6, 2011. 2 Comments ». I love this post! A journey through Peace Corps: Cambodia. About two weeks ago, we had our mid-service training. With this training included a mid-service physical, and in this physical included a step on the ole friendly scale. The good news: I’ve gained 0 pounds during service so far. The bad news: I’ve lost 0 pounds during service so far. What The. Fuck? You can’t be serious, right? What happened to the third-world effect? Who joins the Peace Corps and works their ass off just to stay exactly the same as in the States?

A journey through Peace Corps: Cambodia. Christine’s No-Fail, Slightly Miserable, Look-Sexy-for-Thailand-Wedding Diet. Did I mention I’m going to a wedding in Thailand in October? Anyway, back to The Diet. I wrote a post a few months back about how I was less-than-pleased at my mid-service weight record, and vowed to go on a diet to end all diets. Well, it’s working. I have lost 12 pounds and counting, and it’s all due to a few lifestyle adjustments I’ll share with everyone. Harness ALL of your willpower.

A journey through Peace Corps: Cambodia. This is a true story. A few days ago, we had some guests over at our house. First impression: as they pulled up to the front of our house in their gigantic SUV, they ran over my dog’s food bowl. Now she eats off the floor. Second impression: my host ma comes running out helping them open the door while simultaneously mouthing to me, Christine! For the fourth impression, I don’t so much have a scene to describe, as I do a conversation:. Wifebeater: Where you from?

A journey through Peace Corps: Cambodia. As mango season has officially come to a close, so has my mango observation project. The verdict on the best-tasting mango Cambodia has to offer? But this post isn’t just about the indescribable delectability of the Chinese Glass mango. Oh, no. It’s about all the other sub-par mangos leftover from the season and what my host family does with them. I have two words for you. Fruit. Leather. Would I say no? June 6, 2011. Christine In Between
In between gigs, in between boyfriends, in between cities, in between days, I just like to write. Thursday, April 3, 2014. The day Grunge ran out of gas (R.I.P. Kurt Cobain). Seattle, 1995 - Grunge had by this time become ubiquitous. Over the din of clanking silverware, surely Soundgarden was playing. I was having breakfast with my boyfriend of a few weeks, months, who can remember? VCRs were used before DVDs, kids. I had left my freshly-laminated Hollywood Video Membership Card at home. She typed in the...

Tuesday, August 7, 2007. Why is coming home so hard? Since returning from Burundi I have shared my struggles of living an American life again with many friends and family and I have found that I am far from alone in my struggles. What is it about America, about the West that is so difficult for me to navigate once I have been immersed in developing world Africa? Also, thank you for your support through purchasing Burundian coffee and handmade cards! A good idea, I think. Sunday, April 15, 2007. Will also...

Whether you're about to enter college this fall or are already in school, you've probably heard of the "Freshman 15." The first time I heard about it, I thought to myself " NEVER.
