The Clearwater Historical Society was started in 1979. It took ten years of fundraising to complete the museum in November 1990. Within 6 years nearly 8,000 items were placed in the museum. In the original part of the museum a "house" was created, which has 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, bath, dining room, and parlor. There are many other attractions such as: the Military Room, Summer Kitchen, Laundry Room, School Room, Doctor/Dentist Office, and General Store.

Members of the Historical Society are working on school pictures and family trees of the founding fathers. The art work on the inside and outside of the building were completed in less than 3 months by local artist Yancy Lough, a student of Black Bear Bosun. The original Chisholm Trail marker has been moved to the front of the museum.

In the early years of the 20th century, Clearwater established itself as a premier destination for fun in the sun. In the 1920s, as word of the beauty of the area circulated far and wide, the city flourished. And then came Black Friday. The 1929 stock market crash and the Great Depression descended like a dark cloud, ending the boom years. The immediate effects in Clearwater were seen in slowed construction. Some laborers and craftsmen were forced to leave the area to look for work. Part Six: Boom Days!
