Climbing on Insulin: Rainier Report: Camp Muir

http://www.climbingoninsulin.blogspot.com/2010/08/rainier-report-camp-muir.html

August 11, 2010. Rainier Report: Camp Muir. We each took a blanket and a little hard tack in our knapsacks. I had my camera and had more, of course than any one else… [W]e climbed over snow and ice, then we got to a place about 10,000 ft. where we were to stay over night. The night was like a night in Minn. in Dec. AC Warner, Expedition Photographer, 1888*. 8221; wave. What would John Muir have thought? After eating a little hardtack, each of us leveled a spot to lie on among lava-blocks and cinders....

July 27, 2010. Rainier Report: Paradise to Muir. If there is one thing I learned during the three days I spent on Rainier, it's that no matter how many guidebooks read, trail maps studied, conversations had, and background research accumulated, there is absolutely no way to remove a certain element of unknown that defines an expedition. In the months and weeks leading up to the climb—trust me, I definitely tried! The 4 am wake up call wasn’t nearly as unwelcome as I thought it’d be. Once ...The whole gro...

Tri-ing with insulin: Wildflower

http://tri-ingoninsulin.blogspot.com/2009/05/wildflower.html

Pursuing mind over matter ('cause I got nothin' in the matter category)! Wednesday, May 6, 2009. After catching up on work and sleep the past several days, wanted to catch up on the Wildflower experience this past weekend. My first triathlon was pretty demanding as I felt like I was climbing the hills of Monterey County, California, 99% of the day. Although my swimming has loads of improvement ahead, I did make it out of the water! Huge props to Anne for legging out the cycling leg with a relay team....

I will not forget making the last turn on the golf course and seeing you run to the ropes to get a high-five coming down the home stretch. Diabetes' marriage with triathlon started out there with Billy 26 years ago and look how far it has come - a remarkable legacy! Nice Job Sean, that is a amazing picture! Type 1 for 21 ye...

Pursuing mind over matter ('cause I got nothin' in the matter category)! Wednesday, January 28, 2009. That gave me enough to get back into stride and run the last 2 miles in. Upon crossing the finish line, BG was spot on at 103. For my first serious long run, it came off pretty well. Monday and Tuesday were a struggle to walk around, but Wednesday has brought back some flexibility and I should be ready to get back on the trail by the weekend. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Tuesday, March 20, 2018. 19 Days Remain: My torso gear and a quick update. Inside 3 weeks and I cannot keep still. The anticipation is just killing me. I have a few thousand things to do before I leave but those will be in my rear view mirror in short order. A few days ago, Alan Arnette asked me if I would like to be interviewed. I resume my coverage of gear by moving ever so slowly up my body. Today, I discuss my torso gear. I rely on my X-Bionic base layer top for warmth and recovery. My hard shell top.
