Clinging To A Rock

Clinging To A Rock. Friday, 30 January 2015. Today is a significant day for me, which I am spending at home where I can shut the world out. It is also the day I stop writing this blog for good. No ‘maybe’ or ‘perhaps if’ I’ve thought about it throughout a month when new and major challenges have appeared from nowhere and my mind is made up. My spare time from this month is strictly limited, so it has to focused and (to be honest) fun. For as long as the editor thinks it relevant. Well, it has been a blas...

Clinging To A Rock: Manger danger

http://clingingtoarock.blogspot.com/2014/12/manger-danger.html

Clinging To A Rock. Tuesday, 16 December 2014. There are days when you worry about the state of the Manx NHS. And then there are other days when you really worry about it - especially when it caves in to pitchfork-waving simpletons stirred up by priests. Which isn't to say that all clergy contact with the health service is negative. For example, when the bishop spouts guff like this (see http:/ www.isleofman.com/News/details/68929/bishop-bemoans-political-correctness. All of which makes this (see http:/ ...

Clinging To A Rock: March 2014

Clinging To A Rock. Saturday, 29 March 2014. When two myths collide. Even without my cultural academic hat on, I would roll around the floor laughing at this nonsense (see http:/ www.iomtoday.co.im/news/isle-of-man-news/stormy-meeting-over-future-of-cregneash-church-1-6511315. In which two delusions, almost equidistant from contemporary society, go all handbags at dawn. So, as Harry Enfield would say, which myth is more important, religion or heritage? Only one way to find out.F-I-I-G-G-H-H-T! Cregneash ...

Clinging To A Rock: January 2014

http://clingingtoarock.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Clinging To A Rock. Saturday, 18 January 2014. I've been watching, with some interest, the increasing placement of 'news' about local Catholic 'community work', especially amongst the Manx Filipino community. Not a lot of people know this, but last year this island was sent the first Catholic missionary since the time of the Celtic saints. It isn't that the Vatican is concerned for the state of our souls, more that it is worried about missing a gravy train on which other churches were early passengers.

Clinging To A Rock: April 2014

Clinging To A Rock. Saturday, 19 April 2014. David Nutt talk - be there or stay misinformed. A couple of weeks back I hit a particularly rich and interesting research seam for another project. For that reason alone I cannot blog much until I find time to read through and start processing it. Still, I can at least point anyone who hasn't yet heard towards the David Nutt lecture at the Manx Museum on Monday 28. Sunday, 13 April 2014. Necromancy considered as a subsidised performance art. And as for race.

Life on this Side

Life on this Side. Lantern is a free premium Blogger theme by NewBloggerThemes.com. Tuesday, September 24, 2013. I am from mess and noise. From stuffed animals and an old driveway basketball goal. I’m from the suburban brown bricks of the lower middle class. From fast food dinners, garage work outs,. And the tree in the yard that grew up while I did. I’m from Uno games and yelling matches. From momma’s hugs and dad’s anger. From sisters laughing and tears flowing. I enjoyed writing my own version of this...

A Writer in Pursuit of Making it Big in the Big A. I realized that it had been over a year. (Seriously a YEAR? This video is how I feel some days in NYC. One woman's attempt to cling to the coolness she may never have had to begin with. Monday, November 7, 2011. I don't write much about my Big Lug. He's a private person and, after all, I am the one clinging to cool, not him. But in life, events and moments happen that forever change the way you view your significant other - for both the good and the bad. Major life moments deserve acknowledgement. Looking to the Higher Ground

Looking to the Higher Ground. Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Sharing in His Sufferings. It's one thing to acknowledge belief in the saving power of Christ's death and resurrection, but it has been granted that if we believe in Him, we will also suffer for His sake! Since when does pain and death accompany freedom and riches? That is what I first thought when I read Philippians 1:29. However, I decided to read on, and I soon discovered that Paul has much more to say to the Philippians and to us on this topic.
