Chillies; just how hot is hot? May 15, 2016. The Scoville Scale is named after its creator, American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville. In 1912 he devised a method of measuring how hot chillies are and his test is officially known as the Scoville Organoleptic Test. The number means how much the extract would need to be diluted before the capsaicin present is undetectable. Chilli Pepper / Hot Sauce. Pure capsaicin and Dihydrocapsaicin. What to nibble during the day - Clive Wilson

What to nibble during the day. Jan 28, 2016. A typical Graze box. In July 2013 I took delivery of a new juicer that I bought from Amazon. In the box was a voucher from Graze; a company I’d never heard of and, at first glance, didn’t fully get what it was about. Graze, which started around 2008, provides a huge range of innovative, tasty snacks that are also healthy (not that you’d always realise it as they taste so good). Tweets by @Clive Wilson.

Making an Ass of Myself - Clive Wilson

Making an Ass of Myself. Jan 1, 2016. Making an Ass of myself. The complex nature of any language can seem nonsensical and impossible to grasp to the natives, let alone foreigners, especially when trying to make yourself understood. 8220;Tiene beurro por favor? 8221; and ‘spreading’ more exaggeratedly as if it would make any difference. It didn’t. Fortunately, a kindly Spanish-speaking ex-pat (yes, I know that’s a rare beast – the speaking Spanish, not being kind! At least I tried. Tweets by @Clive Wilson.

So just why is it still called a Mobile Phone? - Clive Wilson
http://www.clivewilson.com/so-just-why-is-it-still-called-a-mobile-phone
So just why is it still called a Mobile Phone? Mar 6, 2016. Way back when the humble mobile phone began offering more than just a way of talking to someone, it was a real novelty to be able to connect to the information superhighway and use email. Of course, back then we didn’t even have WiFi so your internet connection was via the [GPRS] mobile signal and was painfully slow and intermittent. The problem was that nobody really wanted to carry a mobile phone, a PDA and a Filofax (because they didn’t reall...

You’ve never heard of it, have you? Dec 17, 2015. It shows how vast the Internet is that not just a website but a whole organisation is able to exist and provide an online service to millions, yet even more millions have never even heard of it. Esty started small and has grown year on year to be a sizeable organisation with literally millions of users and tens of millions of visitors. According to Etsy it’s a place to. Also, because so much is beautifully hand crafted by some of the planet’s most i...

The future is bright. The future is green. - Clive Wilson

The future is bright. The future is green. Nov 17, 2015. The idea of juicing fruit and vegetables is far from new and there are many reasons why probably everyone should seriously consider incorporating green juices into their every day diet. It’s interesting to see the reaction you get when you show people what you’re drinking as it’s mostly shock, recoiling with a ‘you wouldn’t get me drinking that’ look on their face, sometimes even disgust at the mere thought! When did it all start? Raw, juiced food ...

English language - the joy of words - Clive Wilson
http://www.clivewilson.com/language-is-so-complicated
English language – the joy of words. Mar 25, 2016. The English language is difficult enough yet, when spoken, we intuitively distinguish the difference between their, there and they’re or full, fool and fall without flinching, even though they sound very similar. However, it’s only when having to write something or explain it to someone else that you realise how tough it really is or, perhaps, how little you really understand. Quicksand works slowly, boxing rings are square. He was too close to the door ...

I sell, you sell, he sells, she sells, they sell, we sell - Clive Wilson

I sell, you sell, he sells, she sells, they sell, we sell. Feb 26, 2016. On Facebook in July 2013 I posted a photo I’d taken of the back of a Carpet Right lorry because the grammar in the signwriting looked, to my way of thinking, incorrect. My post created quite a response as it stirred the opinions of those who believed they knew better [than I] but the debate is far from settled. To the right is the picture I posted together with the comments that subsequently flowed:. Perhaps I should ask my friend&#...
