Urban Agriculture, Food Security, Local and Sustainable Food Systems, Grow-Your-Own, Polyculture, Urban Food . Tuesday, November 28, 2006. Excellent new book Heat: How to Stop the Planet Burning. When Monbiot's new book came out last month, I knew that I would read it sooner or later, but it was after a friend recommended it so enthusiastically that I picked it up to read on my flight to Vancouver. The purpose of my trip was to attend the Bridging Borders Toward Food Security. I believe that this ecologi...

Urban Agriculture, Food Security, Local and Sustainable Food Systems, Grow-Your-Own, Polyculture, Urban Food . Sunday, February 11, 2007. In a previous post, I posed the question: Is there such a thing as urban food and rural food, or even suburban food? The distinction between the three major types of built environment are not normally applied to food, but I consider this an interesting question and an important distinction to make. So, what is urban food? Monday, February 19, 2007 4:11:00 am.

Which usually focus on reclaiming car dominated spaces for more enjoyable, creative and productive uses. Kelsey Carriere is one of the founders of Streets Are For People and has been involved in creating and maintaining this garden, and she agreed to talk about the project on camera. I love when food production is used as a form of protest! Yes, the car is still here!

Urban Agriculture, Food Security, Local and Sustainable Food Systems, Grow-Your-Own, Polyculture, Urban Food . Monday, January 08, 2007. What is Food Urbanism? A few months ago I was talking with my good friend Donald Chong. On that day, but it was only when I was trying to find a good title for this blog, I 'rediscovered' it. I was originally going to focus this blog on Urban Agriculture. Can food be described as a force? Isn't food a major part of human communities? Following a few links, wikipedia bro...

Urban Agriculture, Food Security, Local and Sustainable Food Systems, Grow-Your-Own, Polyculture, Urban Food . Wednesday, June 27, 2007. I was cycling through the center of Dublin this afternoon and had stopped to chat to a couple of friends that I had not seen in a long time. While we were standing there on the side of the road, a woman came up to us and said "Nice blog. I like the Food Urbanism idea." And that was it. She was off down the road leaving me rather stunned! I could write a lot about this, but for now I thought I would list the three main reasons why my family and I grow our own food. Saturday, January 13, 2007 10:46:00 am.

Urban Agriculture, Food Security, Local and Sustainable Food Systems, Grow-Your-Own, Polyculture, Urban Food . Friday, February 16, 2007. Corn on the Cob. This was the worst cob of fresh sweetcorn that I have ever tasted. But then again, I have been spoilt. A few weeks ago I went out and bought a package of two "fresh" cobs of sweetcorn, flown in from South Africa! When I got home with my food-mile heavy purchases, I found out that the class had been postponed for at least a week! Corn on the Cob.
