Exterior Cob Wall Hackney Wick. Linda Royles from Cob in the Community. Led a group of mud masons in the creation of the first cob wall on the canal system in the UK. Jam jars were inserted into the wall to give extra light inside. Cob is fireproof, resistant to seismic activity, and inexpensive. It can be used to create artistic and sculptural forms. We invited Permablitz London. Along with a group of 30 volunteers, a van full of pallets and some great enthusiasm to teach how to make Cob, re-purpose pallets, and energising a green canalside space in the heart of Hackney Wick. A Permablitz involves a group of people coming together for a day or two in an event of skill share and mini workshops around the principles of permaculture design. Over 40 pallets were dismantled to be used for Gaia Gallery’s floor and internal spaces. Cob in the Community.
