Cody's Plants: August 2016
http://www.codysplants.com/2016_08_01_archive.html
A blog about backyard gardening in North Florida. Thursday, August 11, 2016. The past few weeks have been nothing but rain and more rain. Sometimes it's a downpour while other times it's just a constant drizzle. The main problem with all this rain is that the sun barely comes out to dry it up. I haven't watered anything in over a week and I'm afraid my seedlings aren't growing very much without any sunlight. Email - cody@codysplants.com. From around the yard:. Yellow and Purple Coneflower seedlings.
Cody's Plants: Summer Seeds
http://www.codysplants.com/2016/07/summer-seeds.html
A blog about backyard gardening in North Florida. Thursday, July 21, 2016. With the heat and afternoon thunderstorms, it's hard to get outside and stay long enough to get some work done. I have slowly been working on our front rose gardens and adding new roses by cuttings. I also planted a yellow hibiscus and large flower Luna hibiscus right by a gutter. they are doing great! My organized seed starting bench. Organizing seeds in larger containers. Look how many are on two dried flowers! Prairie Moon Nurs...
Cody's Plants: February 2016
http://www.codysplants.com/2016_02_01_archive.html
A blog about backyard gardening in North Florida. Tuesday, February 23, 2016. Free Plants Are Always Great! It's starting to feel like spring but I keep hearing that later in the week we will have another burst of cold down into the 30's. I'm ready to leave all my sensitive plants out for good! I got to work today and a co-worker gave me 3 'Little Gem' Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora). I gave her 3 tomatoes yesterday so I think I made out better in the trade. I'll take any plant as a gift! Growin...
Cody's Plants: Do we have Florida Native Milkweed?
http://www.codysplants.com/2016/05/do-we-have-florida-native-milkweed.html
A blog about backyard gardening in North Florida. Tuesday, May 24, 2016. Do we have Florida Native Milkweed? Which species of milkweed do we have? Here are some pictures of the milkweed growing in our garden:. Older picture showing off the leaves. Notice the seed pods. My first thought was that these plants were Asclepias tuberosa. Or commonly called butterfly milkweed, but after some research I found that the flowers and leaves were very different. And we recently received a butterfly packet in the mail...

Garden On Fourth Street: Mostly Summer, With A Dash Of Fall
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2016/10/mostly-summer-with-dash-of-fall.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. October 31, 2016. Mostly Summer, With A Dash Of Fall. There's a period of time, quite early in the morning, when I sense fall in the air. All too soon, the temperatures ascend to the mid 80's and fall is forgotten. Summer blooms are still numerous in my gardens, like this Pagoda Plant with a lovely visitor. This Clematis had been cut down a few weeks ago and has returned to flower once more. Tibouchinas in the shade garden. Out front in full sun.

Garden On Fourth Street: Last Post Of 2015
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2015/12/last-post-of-2015.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. December 23, 2015. Last Post Of 2015. A gardener, trying to share a glimpse of my endeavors at gardening. Thank you all for sharing your lovely spaces with me, you and your beautiful gardens have been an inspiration. This is a little of what's going on in my world. I sowed ryegrass seed a week or so ago, and my neighbor yelled over, "You're gonna have to mow that, you know? Hydrangeas in the shade gardens, around back, are also setting buds. They had ...

Garden On Fourth Street: Fabulous Fall
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2016/11/fabulous-fall.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. November 23, 2016. If you're looking for a cool, autumnal place to celebrate Thanksgiving, don't come to Florida. Sunshine and eighty degree days are what we're looking forward to for the next few weeks, and I couldn't be happier. Oh yes, it's quite dry - but the continued warmth is a beautiful thing! A lighter shade of pink, 'Cotton Candy'. Across the yard, another young Sasanqua, 'Alabama Beauty'. Roses by the porch. Flowering earlier this year.

Garden On Fourth Street: Life Within The Garden
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2016/04/life-within-garden.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. April 18, 2016. Life Within The Garden. We've always had rabbits around, and luckily they've never been too much trouble. In the past they've cropped a few newly sprouted beans, but nothing we couldn't live with. They've always been very skittish, taking off whenever our paths crossed. But then.the other day I came across this bunny that has no wild. No nest, just this bunny. A couple hours later, I was out front taking a few pictures. This is the fir...

Garden On Fourth Street: This Is For the Birds
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2016/02/this-is-for-birds.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. February 21, 2016. This Is For the Birds. This is for the birds, literally! They're providing color in my garden, while the landscape is still dreary. When spring arrives I won't have the luxury of sitting quietly waiting on them to appear, so I'm enjoying them now. We have lots of cardinals, first to the feeders in the morning and the last to leave at night. This cool guy is a Gray Catbird. A Goldfinch and friends. I hope you are all enjoying whateve...

Garden On Fourth Street: Central Florida...Gardening And Gators.
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2015/07/central-floridagardening-and-gators.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. July 28, 2015. Central Florida.Gardening And Gators. We had a rainy day yesterday, gentle showers, throughout the afternoon. It was somewhat cooler, than it had been most mornings. I decided to grab my pruners and start a few cuttings, from this. I don't have a potting bench, but as it was misting off and on, I worked under the umbrella, on my back deck. I did a tray of assorted coleus. I've never rooted a desert rose before, but hey, why not? We had ...

Garden On Fourth Street: A Few Of My Favorite Things...
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2016/05/a-few-of-my-favorite-things.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. May 18, 2016. A Few Of My Favorite Things. The gardens were completely refreshed by the beautiful deluge from the skies yesterday. I took this photo of a Hyacinth Bean flower with storm clouds as a background. I planted the inside of my vegetable garden with a variety of summer vines this spring and some are just beginning to show color. Besides a quite pretty bloom, this vine will produce attractive purple beans later on. Back in the shade gardens my...

http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2016/12/december-has-been-lovely-warm-month-in.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. December 20, 2016. December has been a lovely, warm month in Florida. Flowers are still in bloom and butterflies are everywhere! Although some annual flowers are gone, the pollinators are visiting whatever's available. I've been noticing Gulf Fritillaries hanging around the Turk's Cap and wondered how they were able to get to the nectar. If you look closely, you can see its proboscis - long flexible tongue - sliding between the petals. Your pictures a...

Garden On Fourth Street: Morning Magic
http://gardenonfourthstreet.blogspot.com/2015/08/morning-magic.html
Garden On Fourth Street. Central Florida Garden Blog. August 23, 2015. I haven't been doing any. The shade gardens have remained beautiful, throughout the summer, with little effort on my part. I've divided hostas and gingers this year, also rooted cuttings, to fill the beds as full as possible. More plants, less weeds. Morning doesn't last nearly long enough. Blue Ginger.pretty , even as a bud. Waiting for the flower. Out front, with the sun still streaming in, horizontally. It was altogether lovely.
