Telephone 0113 262 2233. An energy-efficient extension and refurbishment of a detached stone house in Huby. Designed to maximise sunlight and distant views, the now reconfigured house is focused around a sunny new open-plan flexible living space. A new staircase ties the two floors together visually and provides a daily transition through the glazed extension with views across the garden to the horizon. This rural house was poorly laid out internally and didn’t make use of the sunny aspect.

Planning Permission secured in December 2011 for integrated single-storey extension and internal reconfiguration to form an open plan ground floor kitchen, dining and living space with improved first floor layout. Crucial additional space and daylight are key to transforming the existing cramped layout. Existing 1970's terraced house is located within Headingley Conservation Area.

This was a phased extension doubling the living space in a 1920’s bungalow and incorporating a new biomass boiler, solar hot water and high levels of insulation. Complex negotiations were required to achieve planning permission, and the structural design was carefully considered to enable use of existing foundations without the need for expensive underpinning.
