http://francesquilts.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances. Thursday, April 30, 2015. The results are in……. 8230;and we will NOT be trekking in May! The Representative from REI called this afternoon and said that they have decided to cancel all of their treks in May. While we are disappointed, we feel sure that this is the best decision for now. So, now we are trying to decide whether we are going to move the trip to the first two weeks in October, adding the time on to our already planned month in Bangalore, India. The earthq...

Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances: August 2015
http://francesquilts.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances. Monday, August 31, 2015. Our travel was fairly long and convoluted but everything worked well and we arrived in Bangalore with no problems. We had a slow start to the trip as our flight out of Atlanta was delayed by about two hours but since we had a 6 hour layover in Amsterdam, we were not too worried by it. We made friends with the flight attendants and were treated wonderfully during the flight. People kept telling us to go to the right but we couldn’t ever s...

http://francesquilts.blogspot.com/2015/08/windy-cold-wet-wild-fantastic.html
Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances. Wednesday, August 5, 2015. Windy, cold, wet, wild and fantastic! On Saturday there was a trip planned to a local Paramo which is a high treeless plateau found in South America. I was expecting something akin to the Mesas in New Mexico….I was WRONG! We boarded the buses at 6:20 and headed out into the countryside. There were two buses, each containing about 30 people. We started winding our way up the mountains, accompanied by lots of other cars, buses, trucks and moto...

Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. Time for the “State of the Studio” address…. Well, I was getting ready to post a note about a new project that I just started, but realized that it was New Year’s Eve and I hadn’t yet written my “State of the Studio” address, also known as “what I did this year”. So, here goes…. I found some much needed creative time during 2014, enjoying working on several fun projects. This fun baby quilt was a joy to make……. As I look forward to 2015, ...

Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances: June 2015
http://francesquilts.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. I love living in a University town….there is always something fun to see! A while back, I shopped at a Pottery sale sponsored by one of the Art departments at the University of Georgia. It was so much fun to see all of their wonderful art and even more fun to pull out my credit card and make some purchases! The first thing that I found was this “garden gnome”……. Even better is that it was only $20! It looks great in my flower garden! The proble...

Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances: A day of eating!!!
http://francesquilts.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-day-of-eating.html
Quilts And Other Stuff From Frances. Sunday, August 2, 2015. A day of eating! On Monday, Michael was scheduled to be in symposia all day, but he didn’t have to be there until 11:00, so we had a much enjoyed quiet start to our day, including breakfast on the 4th floor of our hotel. It has splendid views of the city and was a fun way to start our day. We walked/drove to a restaurant down the street and all sat out in the open air to enjoy our meal. I was completely lost! And finally the main course…. Micha...

Sewing & Quilt Gallery: August 2015
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 26, 2015. That's a nice non-descriptive title, huh? If I wrote, "More Hexagons", then half of you would take for the hills. But reality is, I have been doing relatively mundane things, and the hexagons are at the top of the interest list. I am putting a binding on the silk wholecloth. Yippy-do-da! I endeavor to make pretty cakes, but it is very clear I am a better quilter than cake decorator! Almost 9, and sporting all her Paris couture, in Paris no less! I have (I think! The front is p...

Sewing & Quilt Gallery: Springtime in the Geisha's Garden...MQX
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2014/04/springtime-in-geishas-gardenmqx.html
Monday, April 14, 2014. Springtime in the Geisha's Garden.MQX. It measures just about 60" square (a hair smaller). I started on the dahlia center last March. This center medallion has a dark brown piping between the ivory and the print from the silk Radiance. I have also put silk accents in other areas on the quilt. This fabric is simply addictive, and I love working with it. Here are a few links to the thought process I used during construction. .Here. And many were silk. The hardest areas to design qui...

Sewing & Quilt Gallery: March 2015
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 30, 2015. This is a crazy time of year for me. Kids are busy with school. And I am taking off for 5 days next week to teach 4 classes and attend MQX in Manchester, NH. I think I am mostly ready for my classes, but those thoughts of doubt always creep in. I don't like surprises much so I have spent a lot of time thinking of lots of different scenarios for the classes. Notice the hot pink at the bottom? That is the backing! The design has some flowers - tulips, petunias, a sunflower and the d...

Thursday, January 29, 2015. Smack in the middle of winter.not a whole lot of cooperation with the weather, The day that I tried to take a picture of this entire quilt there was very flat light. But you get the idea.it's 78" of pretty feathered star blocks. And it was destined for a custom job. I am now up to my proverbial eye-balls in snow.two snow days this week (30" fell! Already and a potential 3rd one tomorrow, to give another 8-12". I cannot imagine where we will put it. I am plugging ahead ...The R...
