The Shallow Abyss: Jack
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2015/07/jack.html
Friday, July 10, 2015. Jack is our neighbour across the lane. He died last week at the age of 69, not enough years but years lived fully. His wife Rosa is heart-broken, and surrounded by her daughters and their children, but still so, so lonely. Raising kids on love is some damned hard work though. This week, I'd have preferred to be raising kids with JOY! The hope and faith is that the love remains. That it is fuelled by source that is eternal and unending. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

The Shallow Abyss: The End
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2013/12/the-end.html
Tuesday, December 31, 2013. Tonight, we will end 2013 and if we can make it, start 2014 with our neighbours. We will share a meal and share opinions and share drinks and shares giggles and probably share a few curse words. I like it so much because I am so hopeful that neighbouring will continue to take up more and more space in my life in the year(s) to come. As I've thought about the rest of what the year to come could bring, I've kept tripping across the word. 4:13 PM, January 01, 2014. Simple templat...

The Shallow Abyss: July 2014
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 22, 2014. It's [still] All About Me. So I thought something new. As one. matures, these moments are less frequent and all the more noteworthy. When the new thing brings Life and Peace and Rest, I like to say that it's God speaking, but I'm never exactly sure if that's true. If my new thought turns out to be life-stealing for someone else, I'd hate to make God its author, you know? Since this moment, there has been Life and Peace and Rest in my heart, and in my home. I am experiencing th...

The Shallow Abyss: Advent Six
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2013/12/advent-six.html
Friday, December 06, 2013. I have said before and will say again, David's Psalms are in the Cannon to remind us that if that guy can be the great hero of the Old Testament, then there is room for ALL of us in the Kingdom of God. Forgotten how he was too young? Had they forgotten that the great love of G-d's life had been a mess? Good grief. Jesus must have sworn so much. Jesus comes to remind us that we don't get to choose who isn't "in" - we don't get to count anyone out, not even our own selves. With h...

The Shallow Abyss: Advent Four
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2013/12/advent-four.html
Wednesday, December 04, 2013. I am finding this Advent more difficult, partly because it is so much easier this year. The last several years of angst-fuelled instrospection and reading and writing has borne good fruit - namely clarity and peace. New International Version (NIV). The Parable of the Two Sons. 8220;What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work today in the vineyard.’. 8220;Which of the two did what his father wanted?

The Shallow Abyss: Indeed
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2015/04/indeed.html
Sunday, April 05, 2015. Our wandering away from the habits of church and Christianity is almost always a peaceful wander. Our settledness with being Jesus-y at our best, and vaguely hopeful at our worst is almost always fine. Except for the days when it's not. And Easter Sunday is most assuredly a day when it's not. And yet. And yet. And yet. Through all the places I went first? How will they know about light overcoming dark? How will they know that death has no victory, no sting? A collection of deep th...

The Shallow Abyss: Advent Advent III.iv
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2013/11/advent-advent-iiiiv.html
Friday, November 29, 2013. Advent Advent III.iv. I love the Jesus Disciple stories in the New Testament. Lest anyone think they are not qualified for the Kingdom, they need only look at the morons Jesus chose. To be his closest friends to see that the Kingdom of Heaven is made up of jackasses and idiots. In this passage in Matthew, the two Zebedee boys ask their Mom to ask Jesus if they can be super important in Heaven. And their Mom does it! What hope do we have, thousands of years later, in a completel...

The Shallow Abyss: November 2013
http://theshallowabyss.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Saturday, November 30, 2013. Advent Advent III.v. Today is short and sweet. Two blind men are sitting by the side of the road when they hear that Jesus is going by. They can't see him, but they just start shouting "JESUS! HAVE MERCY ON US! They can't really know how close or far he is, but they just keep yelling, "JESUS! HAVE MERCY ON US! The people around them tell them to shut up - it's kind of embarssing right? Maybe some golf clapping? But these two blind yahoos just keep yelling. HAVE MERCY ON US!
