November 1, 2013. We have a few labels put out in our garden to help children identify some of the plants growing in the outer environment. Poem In My Pocket | contemplating montessori

https://contemplatingmontessori.wordpress.com/2013/09/26/poem-in-my-pocket

Poem In My Pocket. September 26, 2013. It always surprises me when I hear people tell me that they dislike poetry. Honestly though I have never heard a child say that. It is usually adults. Somewhere along the long and winding road, poetry quietly exits from our lives…poetry that, I am certain, was a companion to us in our younger years. A few months ago, we at school, stumbled across an idea that we fell in love with. It’s called ‘Poem In Your Pocket’. What a wildly delightful idea! When the parents cam...

Gathering Leaves | contemplating montessori

https://contemplatingmontessori.wordpress.com/2013/09/19/gathering-leaves

September 19, 2013. It’s the season for the ‘jungee badam’ tree to shed it’s leaves, once again. This is the time when we gather the beautiful fallen leaves – red, brown, ochre, burnt orange and russet and string them into all manner of curiosities. There are pouches secretly carrying a tiny rock and seed or hair wreaths encircling happy heads. Bracelets are fashioned and among the more adventurous – belts, crowns and collars! Spades take up leaves. No better than spoons,. And bags full of leaves. Exerci...

How Does Our Garden Grow? – Part Three | contemplating montessori

How Does Our Garden Grow? 8211; Part Three. August 13, 2013. Here is the long overdue update on our gardening endeavours at school. It has now been a couple of months from when we planted our veggies and some flowers and it’s been a mixed bag of results. Our raised boxes are doing well. Even though they had to be moved a few weeks ago, the plants have re-cooperated and are lush and green. The fact that it was from our garden made the salad all the more delicious. Dill to take home …. Fortunately, the fai...

What DID we do all day? : Gearing Up

http://whatdidwedoallday.blogspot.com/2015/08/gearing-up.html

Montessori Elementary Inspired Homeschooling. Thursday, August 13, 2015. I am gearing up for the new school year! We will start back to work on September 1st. I've been filling in the headers on my lesson plan books. Cleaning up, and ordering materials. I will probably post some pictures of our most massive homeschool fieldtrip of all time (or "vacation") to the Badlands, Custer State Park, Mount Rushmore, and Yellowstone National Park. I will also post soon about where each of the kids left off in t...

What DID we do all day? : Need Advice (again)

http://whatdidwedoallday.blogspot.com/2009/09/need-advice-again.html

Montessori Elementary Inspired Homeschooling. Tuesday, September 29, 2009. I need advice. Again. I am looking specifically for recommendations for books or articles I can read that will deal with the issue of correcting (or not correcting as the case may be) the child when they make errors in their work. Now, I know. Montessori works are supposed to be self-correcting. However, I am finding plenty. Correcting the work, but demonstrating the work properly until the child does it correctly on his or her own.

What DID we do all day? : Finally...warm enough for some botany

http://whatdidwedoallday.blogspot.com/2015/04/finallywarm-enough-for-some-botany.html

Montessori Elementary Inspired Homeschooling. Wednesday, April 15, 2015. Finally.warm enough for some botany. We have had a bad case of spring fever this week. The boys are doing a lot of their schoolwork outside, on the porch, on the patio, on the lawn, up trees. The dog is ecstatic. I've been waiting, waiting, waiting.and when we returned from spring break our hundreds of daffodils had bloomed! We can dig back into some "from our own yard" hands on botany. The boys and I had a meeting today and decided...

What DID we do all day? : Whole Tone Scales

http://whatdidwedoallday.blogspot.com/2015/04/whole-tone-scales.html

Montessori Elementary Inspired Homeschooling. Monday, April 20, 2015. Somebody wasn't happy that the Tone Bars. Weren't out and took it upon himself to set them up. Afterward he built some major scales using the scale strip. It looks like we have E major up there. To stimulate some more practice building major scales I added an extra point of interest. After building the scale with the strip the boys can mount the scale on the Scale Ladder. Labels: Montessori elementary homeschooling. Parts of a Circle.

Just another WordPress.com site. A Montessori Break and other such Montessori isms…. →. Our environment is prepared but have we prepared ourselves? But in the preparing of this environment shelf by shelf and corner by corner, my mind keeps wandering back to the preparation of the adult. To quote Montessori from the Absorbent Mind –. This helps me be prepared for my work for the day to be the interpreter of the child, to observe without judgement, to act to present needs, to be careful to discriminate my ...

Montessori Elementary Inspired Homeschooling. Wednesday, October 14, 2009. I have been so inspired recently by bloggers. Making their own Montessori materials. There have been some amazing posts lately written by people who actually have had success (unlike myself) and have shared pictures and sometimes instructions and/or tips. I thought it might be nice if there was a place where people could post a link to their at-home experiments. I have added a new section to my right-hand sidebar titled: DIY.

Just another WordPress.com site. Our environment is prepared but have we prepared ourselves? After a few weeks of being away from this environment I am amazed again by how the children own this space in so many ways and how all the things they have internalized about this environment have become integrated with how they move here, what choices they make, and their relation to each other, to me and to the objects they encounter in their time here! 5 thoughts on “ The prepared environment.
