Barbel and Chub Fishing on the River Swale. Welcome to Crakehill Angling. January 24, 2014. For many years this stretch was controlled by Thirsk Angling Club who have now, sadly, folded (Dec 2013). We decided to try and preserve the fishing at Crakehill for a few like minded anglers who appreciate fishing this attractive part of the Swale. Above the weir the Swale backs up a little and is quite deep and slow, classic walking pace barbel and chub territory. A nice barbel caught by one of our members.
