Service Centered: Thoughts on public service while exploring D.C. and the world. Monday, November 11, 2013. Outside of the office, I've been lucky to score some amazing invites to some great events. First on that list was the Season 2 Premier of the Norwegian/Netflix show Lilyhammer. So wonderful and full. I love that Norwegians fully embrace a low-key evening at home with friends over a simple home-made dinner followed by coffee and a rousing game of Ticket to Ride. I was warned more than once t...Discl...

Service Centered: Thoughts on public service while exploring D.C. and the world. Tuesday, May 27, 2014. Old town and Blue Mosque. Inside of the Hagia Sophia. Originally built in 537. More Hagia Sophia - it is truly one of the most stunning buildings I've ever been inside. Storm clouds float in as we enjoyed the views from the Asian side of the Bosphorus. Floating down the Golden Horn with a crescent moon above. Hagia Sophia lit up at night. View of the old town from the hotel roof. I'm Not Giving Up My N...

Service Centered: A Long Ride (or Many)

Service Centered: Thoughts on public service while exploring D.C. and the world. Tuesday, September 2, 2014. A Long Ride (or Many). To getting to the top of Grefsenkollen, one of Oslo's favorite cycling challenges. Since I last wrote about becoming a bike lady. Proof I did it! Me and my trusty bike riding partner/guru (and our bikes) enjoy a post-ride meal - Kebab from Carmel Grill. I am officially obsessed. A group of ladies and their bikes enjoy a mid-ride snack. 8220;Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” -Maya Angelou. Saturday, April 25, 2015. After leaving our private elephant show we drove back to the Serena for lunch before setting off on our long, hard drive to the Serengeti. (And those 45 minutes from earlier? Hippos, including a sweet baby! Not an insubstantial bird. Furry brown baby zebra.

Stay tuned for our horrendous travel day story to follow, but with redeeming animal encounters and photos and stories after that. Can I help you? The tail end (pun intended) of the hippo charge. Service Centered: Thoughts on public service while exploring D.C. and the world. Thursday, January 9, 2014. Speaking of skis, I used the day after Christmas to take my 10-year old niece up to the local ski hill and get some skiing in myself. 49 Degrees North hasn't changed one bit since I first learned how to ski there 22 years ago (yikes! As for resolutions, I'm sure I have some. 49 Degrees North, an amazing view, and a few lucky souls. Flying into Seattle at Sunset. Life at the Cabin. Wanderings of a C...

Service Centered: Thoughts on public service while exploring D.C. and the world. Thursday, December 4, 2014. So Much to be Thankful for! I had some help moving my dining set into the main living room, so we could dine in front of a roaring fire, with NFL Game Pass streamed football on the TV in the next room. It couldn't have been more perfect. Http:/ servicecentered.blogspot.com/. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). AmeriCorps to Peace Corps. To Civil Service to Foreign Service.
