The Bruiser: December 2007
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2007_12_01_archive.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Friday, December 28, 2007. Lots of work happening on the beast while I've got some time off of work for the holidays. The latest job to be finished was the forks. The chrome tubes were pitted with rust when I got the bike, and the rubber in the seals was old and hard, both consequences of the coastal location of it's slumber. A re-seal was definitely in the cards. While the forks were off I disassembled the steerer tube and st...

The Bruiser: May 2008
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Tuesday, May 20, 2008. If you've been reading the blog for a while you might remember that I bought a mate to my first GS1000 (check out the post here. After getting it home, getting it running and scrounging up all of its missing parts, I realized that I didn't have the time, energy or money for another bike project. So I passed it on to my friend Dan in Redondo Beach. Monday, May 12, 2008. Sunday, May 4, 2008. Jet Kit and Po...

The Bruiser: Jetting
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2008/04/jetting.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Monday, April 14, 2008. So not much to report - I've put a few miles on the bike and been playing with the jetting some more. The main jet I installed at first - 117.5 - seems a bit fat, actually, but the midrange is kinda lean. If not, I'm not sure the valve cover gasket will survive another removal, but we'll see, won't we? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). BikeCliff's GS850 site - GS1000 shop manual. The Bruiser: Another One?
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2008/02/another-one.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Friday, February 22, 2008. So I finally got around to buying that parts bike I mentioned a couple of months ago. It's got 21,000 miles on it, and is in almost exactly the same shape as the bruiser. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Maybe a streetfighter with modern suspension and wheels but oldschool bodywork? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). BikeCliff's GS850 site - GS1000 shop manual. GS1000 stuff on ebay.

The Bruiser: April 2008
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Sunday, April 20, 2008. The bike's been running great so that means it's time to go back and re-do a few minor details that didn't get finished to my satisfaction the first time around. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I like to make sure everything's done just right. I also wanted an excuse to get one of those non-vented AGM batteries they have now, so I sold the old battery to my friend Dan and ripped out the box. BikeCliff's...

The Bruiser: Exhaust Time
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2008/03/vroooom-exhaust-time.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Monday, March 31, 2008. From the first day I dragged this bike home I dreamed of having an aftermarket exhaust. I just love the way a '70s bike looks with a 4:1 header and megga. While I had hopes of finding a vintage Bassani or Yoshimura pipe, I wasn't able to find a good one for a reasonable price. The occasional Kerker came up, but usually the cheaper one - not the performance-oriented "K-line" header. GS1000 stuff on ebay.

The Bruiser: Goodby Bruiser
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2008/05/goodby-bruiser.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Monday, May 12, 2008. Well, after a short seven months of ownership the GS1000 is gone to a new home in Las Vegas. I really liked the bike but never completely "clicked" with it. So when someone emailed me with an offer I couldn't refuse I jumped at it. Hopefully the new owner will send me some pictures to put up on the site. Stay tuned, I'll post a link to my next project. May 6, 2010 at 11:43 AM. GS1000 stuff on ebay. I'm an...

20 years old and counting. Bike Of The Month. Edit or delete an entry. What To Watch For. Dan Bard (Past Editor). There are many websites on the Internet that cater to the motorcyclist, but there is also a lot of garbage out there too. The intention here is to list some of the most popular websites that GSR members find useful in repairing and maintaining their bikes. Hopefully, this will save you some time when it comes time to hunt down parts or information. Give us a hand! To let him know. Website in ...

The Bruiser: A Racing GS Sighting
http://gs1000e.blogspot.com/2008/03/racing-gs-sighting.html
A chronicle of my attempt to find, clean up and restore a 1978 Suzuki GS1000E. Wednesday, March 19, 2008. A Racing GS Sighting. This weekend I went to a benefit show/party for the Cretins M.C. here in LA. It was a good time, the beer and barbeque were flowing and the bands were loud. Some cool bikes there, including my friend Rick's CB450 vintage racer that's really close to being done. Check out the pictures at my Picasa site here. Apparently they didn't take kindly to his other bike, a GS750 with a GS1...
