The Dancing Chain: September 2008
http://dancingchain.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Follow my long-desired trip to ride up Alpe d'Huez, see some pictures, and read about what happens on the way. Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Did I mention that I never intended to fly United airlines to Europe? United has among other things lost my luggage for a week on a flight that I never took. But that is another story. The flight eventually ended with the usual get in a line, wait, then get in the next line and wait. It was good to be home and wonderful to be with Deborah again. There was one...CEO o...

Follow my long-desired trip to ride up Alpe d'Huez, see some pictures, and read about what happens on the way. Sunday, November 30, 2008. William Miller's WWI Diary-Part 8. The 80th Division is finally on its way home but in the ‘hurry up and wait’ tradition, they must stop for six weeks on the way to the transit camp before heading for home. The diary ends with the arrival at Brest. William Miller Diary, April 2-May 18, 1919. Le Grand-Luce] about 9-45 pm and were billed in little Chateau. Apr 3 All slep...

Follow my long-desired trip to ride up Alpe d'Huez, see some pictures, and read about what happens on the way. Thursday, January 22, 2009. The results are in: over 2000 bikes parked. With none lost and just one locked at WABA. HQ awaiting pick up by its owner. This is believed to be the largest number for a bike valet service ever! For lots more pictures, go to WABA's Flickr page. Estimates of the total inauguration crowd vary from 1.2 to 1.8 million. And just how mellow was this crowd? In June, 1970, a ...

Bikes, Travel & Bagels: The Condensed Version
http://bitragels.blogspot.com/2010/07/condensed-version.html
Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Monday, July 26, 2010. A lot has happened in the two months since my last post, I should really keep on top of this blogging thing, but I often find myself forgetting to get things written down. I'll try to bring it all up to speed with the condensed version of June and July. Back in Connecticut, I began to realize that I'd signed up for a ridiculously long race and it was sitting around 3 weeks away. My mileage was certainly not where it should be. I might note, that wi...Scott...
Bikes, Travel & Bagels: January 2010
http://bitragels.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Saturday, January 2, 2010. I hung up the bike after the last race and called it quits for the season. I was certainly ready to be done with riding for a little while. I was mentally in need of a break and physically I could feel my legs yearning for some quality rest. I was so ready to be finished, that I didn't even get to writing anything about it until now. There are some pictures available from Day 1. And from Day 2. For you viewing pleasure. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Bikes, Travel & Bagels: 2010 Wilderness 101
http://bitragels.blogspot.com/2010/08/2010-wilderness-101.html
Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Sunday, August 1, 2010. Let me just say that I'm pretty sure there was no way I had enough miles under my legs to finish a 101 mile mountain bike race with any kind of credible strength. I've been saying it for a month. Anyone that I told about the race, I also told that I was expecting at least a 10 hour finishing time. I'm not really sure what he yelled back, I was too far gone and there was too much trail noise. Eight and a half hours? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
Bikes, Travel & Bagels: May 2010

Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Wednesday, May 12, 2010. Singlespeed-a-palooza' or 'maybe racing singlespeed isn't so bad'. Short story; Jake and I were to race at Singlespeed-a-palooza, Jake broke the end of his collarbone, Lee says, "I'll be 'Jake'." Lee rides Jake's bike at Singlespeed-a-palooza, Jake drinks beer and chats people up at the event venue. Racing Single Speed is Dumb. As the race went on for three more laps my legs grew very, very tired. Too much gear on the uphills, too little on the flats...

Bikes, Travel and Bagels. Wednesday, August 25, 2010. Mt Washington Bicycle Hill Climb 2010. Most of the mountain, especially the early miles, is a little bit of a blur. I never saw the 1 mile post, so by the time I got to the 2 mile post I was wondering where I was and thinking this was going to be a bit longer of a ride than I remembered. Realizing that I'd actually completed 2 miles was a relief. The final 9 minutes of the climb in the video below. Finishing the Mt. Washington hill climb. Let me just ...
