Coach Tunney Brooks Pirate Ship Project Site: The building of the ship
http://tunneybrooks.blogspot.com/2010/03/high-forward-view.html
The building of the ship. The following photos are a log of the ship as it was built. This shot will give an idea of just how large this ship is. This was my fourth model, having just completed the HMS Victory, and I had never attempted such a scale.nor had I ever attempted to build without a set of scaled plan sheets. The "stem-to-stern" length is about five feet. I would guess the scale at 1:25. Also a first for me.I had never attempted to create and rig a ship with unfurled sails. Rather than attempt ...

Mayflower #1 (1:76 scale): July 2014
http://davesmayflower1.blogspot.com/2014_07_01_archive.html
Mayflower #1 (1:76 scale). Thursday, July 24, 2014. Mayflower #1 (1:76th scale). So my friend Chuck Passaro was kind enough to share PDF files of the plan sheets from his Model Shipways kit, which I had printed locally. turned on the lights in my shop, dug out all my tools from storage, and started making some sawdust. Great to be back in the shop again. The primary reason for taking these pics was the celebration of completing the planking of her hull. Yes, it is Miller time! Rail stanchions being added.

La Couronne I: My First Scratch Build - La Couronne I
http://daveslacouronne1.blogspot.com/2014/05/my-first-scratch-build-la-couronne-i.html
I am calling this the La Couronne I because I built it TWICE. This was my first attempt at building a model ship strictly from a set of detailed drawings, otherwise known as "scratch building". as opposed to "kit building". My First Scratch Build - La Couronne I. Here are the plan sheets for this historic French war ship I found on the internet. printed them off and began making sawdust without the first clue what I was about to get into. Took part in the battle of Guetaria in 1638. Crew - 643 men.

Dave's Mini-Victory: My Two HMS Victory Models
http://davesminivic.blogspot.com/2011/11/my-two-hms-victory-models.html
This is a log of my complete restoration and transformation of my tiny 1:180th scale HMS Victory. This model was originally built in 1978, and was my first attempt at working with wood. After all these years, I am re-visiting her in an effort to make numerous technical corrections in her structure and to incorporate as much detail in her features as possible. My Two HMS Victory Models. The mini-Vic is almost exactly half the size of her big sister. You can visit my other model ships at these links .

La Couronne II: My Second Project - La Couronne II
http://daveslacouronne2.blogspot.com/2014/05/this-was-my-second-model-ship.html
My Second Project - La Couronne II. On November 24, 2008 I posted these shots of my second scratch build. Compared to the first model, I would say this is a considerable improvement. Here are the two models together. My first lesson in scale. The scale of the second model is about 1:100.or about 25% larger than the first version. Detail becomes considerably easier with larger scale. Did I learn something here? Wrapping up the hull planking. Carvings on the poop deck bulkheads. Return to My Home Page.

The Cutter Pillsbury: December 2015
http://cutterpillsbury.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html
Friday, December 18, 2015. The Cutter Pillsbury - Home Page. This is a very special model I recently built as an appreciation gift to Dr. Harold Pillsbury. When this amazing ENT surgeon first saw me as a patient, I was, without knowing the seriousness of my ear infection, like a small vessel sailing directly into the center of a "perfect storm". Dr Pillsbury took the helm and managed to navigate me back to calm waters and clear skies. He virtually saved my life. The UNC ENT Cutter Pillsbury. Deck complet...
