David Dibben's Blog: January 2010

http://www.daviddibben.com/2010_01_01_archive.html

Monday, January 11, 2010. It was a nice winters day today and we went to Keihanna park where they were having a free concert by some Taiko drummers. The concert was in the building above - a strange construction hidden by a a large amount of girders. Below is another view. Saturday, January 02, 2010. New Year visit to Nara. December was rather hectic with business trips to Tokyo and Taiwan but the new year was more relaxed. Today we went out to join the crowds in Nara for Hatsumōde. Ō the sun was startin...

Sunday, October 25, 2009. Every year we visit a fruit orchard in Ide-cho to eat mikan. In Japanese it is "mikangari" or hunting for mikan. We take a packed lunch and eat it under the trees and eat far too many mikan. This year the weather was overcast, not like the hot sun of previous years. Just a few photos of the mikan. Saturday, October 17, 2009. Friday, October 16, 2009. Monday was a national holiday ( health and sports day. The pagoda at Joruriji. Chillies for sale outside Gansenji. After leaving t...

David Dibben's Blog: Plum Blossoms

http://www.daviddibben.com/2010/04/plum-blossoms.html

Friday, April 09, 2010. Spring time in Japan means cherry blossoms. But before the cheery trees turn pink the plum trees come in to flower and last month we went off to Tsukigase, north east of Nara, to the plum festiva. L It was one of the first fine days of spring and the area was crowded with people out to see the plum blossoms. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Sunday, April 18, 2010. The day after visiting Ako we headed back towards Kobe, staying at the Kobe end of the Akashi-Kaikyō Bridge (明石海峡大橋) which joins Kobe to Awajishima and which, according to Wkipedia,. Is the world's longest suspension bridge. The following day we took the ferry over to Awajisima and spent the day in a large park there. Thursday, April 15, 2010. Friday, April 09, 2010. The combination of rainy weekends, updating the PC and being generally busy has meant that I have not got around to...

Code Gardening: August 2012

Saturday, 11 August 2012. To try and explain why they should read I now use the metaphor of a jigsaw puzzle. Reading an article or book is like picking up a single piece of the puzzle. Sometimes you can see something recognizable on the piece and see how it fits. More often the picture on the piece only makes sense when it is seen in the context of the surrounding pieces. Sunday, 23 September 2012. Developer Summit 2012 in Kansai. Was a free one day conference (in Japanese) for developers held in Kobe, Japan. It is nice to see more of these events taking place in Kansai rather than just in Tokyo. This event was very popular with several of the sessions being completely full. Following the Google and Microsoft promotions we had an advertising spot for JIRA. The bug tracking system from Atlassian) given by Suzuki Yusuke, an engineer from Growth xPartners. Code Gardening: July 2010

http://www.codegardening.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Friday, 9 July 2010. A script for adding test cases to a CppUnit test class. To fix this I created a small Python script to add a new test, so working from the command line, I just need to write. And the declaration and prototype are created. I don't need to even look at the header file I can just go straight to the definition of the test function and add the test. The header file for a CppUnit test case looks like this:. CPPUNIT TEST SUITE (. CPPUNIT TEST SUITE END ();. And the source file. The hardest ...

Code Gardening: Application Development with Qt-Creator

http://www.codegardening.com/2014/02/application-development-with-qt-creator.html

Sunday, 2 February 2014. Application Development with Qt-Creator. Packt sent me a copy of their new book on using Qt-Creator "Application Development with Qt-Creator". It is very clearly targeted at beginners and anyone with experience of other IDEs would probably find it too light. However, if you are completely new to programming it covers some of the basics of using Qt-Creator, but not really enough to create an actual application. Splitting the main editor window to view two files at the same time.

Saturday, 5 February 2011. Using the 3DConnexion mouse with a Qt Application. This note describes my experiences getting a 3D mouse to work in a Qt application on Windows. 3D mouse is a 6-DOF controller often used for CAD and engineering applications. 3DConnexion provide an SDK for windows which provides integration with MFC applications but not for Qt. RAWINPUT support for Qt. There are 2 problems here. Is set. The application can then retrieve the data using the Raw Input API. Raw Input was added in Wi...

Tuesday, 5 November 2013. Installing ReviewBoard on RHEL-5. Is a great free code review tool which we have been using for several years now. We run it on a Redhat server and it is connected to our Subversion repository. With the 1.7 release of ReviewBoard support for Python 2.4 was dropped and unfortunately that is the standard Python on RHEL-5. So I have been putting off upgrading for some time. Contain the rpms for Python 2.6 so it was as easy as. Export http proxy=http:/ 192.168.1.1:80. Of course, it ...

Code Gardening: Visual Studio 2012 breaks VS2010

http://www.codegardening.com/2012/09/visual-studio-2012-breaks-vs2010.html

Saturday, 15 September 2012. Visual Studio 2012 breaks VS2010. Just rescued me again from yet another Microsoft problem. It seems if you try to install Visual Studio 2012 when you already have a Visual Studio 2010 installation then the 2010 installation gets broken. I can't believe that they did not, which means that they must not care about breaking existing environments. There was no warning message that it would happen and the Update for 2010 was only available after installing 2012.
