Fellow Workers' Conference. The Uniqueness of Christ. The Work of the Holy Spirit. The Providence of God. The Bible and the Word of God. The Cross and Union with Christ. The Gospel on Sin. The question of whether certainty of ultimate salvation is possible in this life has been a major issue both for the Church and for Christians at various times. Regardless of what our personal opinions are, the topic deserves close study. What is the basis of our assurance? How does it relate to faith and God's grace?

The Hymnal Blog: July 2012
http://thehymnalblog.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html
Monday, 30 July 2012. Only people who are skillful should serve. Here is a radical proposition for you: only people who are skilful should serve in music ministry. I know it sounds a bit harsh. But I have a proof-text for it . 1 Chronicles 15:22 has become my new memory verse:. Kenaniah the head Levite was in charge of the singing; that was his responsibility because he was skillful at it. (NIV). Seems to make sense to me. Well, no, not necessarily. Lead the rest of us in singing joyfully to our God.

Taking every thought captive to make it obedient to Christ.". Wednesday, December 28, 2011. Revelation, by James M. Hamilton, Jr. Book Review by Chris Haven. J ames Hamilton has written a fine commentary on the book of Revelation. As part of the “Preaching the Word” commentary series, he has followed the flavor of the series by keeping the content at a more popular level (avoiding extensive footnotes and highly technical discussions) with a large amount of meaningful application. Second, the commentary h...

Just wondering...: April 2010
http://aliensstrangers.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 22, 2010. Do you ever speak to the Women in your Church? We have just begun a new preaching series from the book of Exodus called, Follow ME. The focus of the series is on God and His leadership/ character. I then spoke directly to the women in our church and encouraged them to be fear God and be courageous. What has been interesting is that a number of women have spoken about how moving it was to be spoken to directly as women. What your experience has been? Thursday, April 08, 2010.

Thursday, June 30, 2011. Collaboration Does Not Equal Consensus. The most recent HBR. Is all about collaboration. Morten Hansen has some great insights. Collaborative leadership is the capacity to engage people and groups outside one’s formal control and inspire them to work toward common goals—despite differences in convictions, cultural values, and operating norms. Below are some helpful distinctions between the three leadership styles. Just wondering what you think? COMPARING THREE STYLES OF LEADERSHIP.

Just wondering...: Humilitas
http://aliensstrangers.blogspot.com/2011/06/over-past-few-weeks-i-have-been-reading.html
Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Over the past few weeks I have been reading John Dickson’s book Humilitas. It’s a great read. John has a way of writing that I greatly appreciate. He is consistently able to take complex ideas and make them assessable to everyone. The definition of humility that John proposes is:. Humility is the noble choice to forgo your status, deploy your resources or use your influence for the good of others before yourself.". Or it is a "willingness to hold power in service of others.".

Just wondering...: What Leaders Really Do
http://aliensstrangers.blogspot.com/2008/09/what-leaders-really-do.html
Wednesday, September 24, 2008. What Leaders Really Do. Management is about coping with complexity. Leadership is about coping with change. Good management brings a degree of order and consistency to key dimensions like the quality and profitability of products. Leadership, by contrast, is about coping with change. These two different functions-coping with complexity and coping with change-shape the characteristic activities of management and leadership. By John P. Kotter December 2001 HBR.
