A Life Worthy – A Few Words

https://davidheffren.wordpress.com/2015/05/02/a-life-worthy

May 2, 2015. 8220;Only let your manner of life be worthy of the gospel of Christ.”. But the other day, as I was reading through this chapter, the verse that stuck to me was the one referenced at the beginning of this post. Paul exhorts us to life a life “worthy of the gospel of Christ.” But what does this mean? What does it look like to live a life worthy of the gospel? The word that we translate “worthy” in this verse is the Greek adjective. An item that is. Fit, proper, corresponding, correlating.

The Good(?) Old Days – A Few Words

https://davidheffren.wordpress.com/2015/07/06/the-good-old-days

July 6, 2015. The world is a-changin’. And that can be a scary thing. So what do we tend to do? Often, we look back. We reflect fondly on former days when we weren’t facing all of these same problems — to a time when it all seemed somehow “better.” Can’t we just go back to when everyone went to church and lived upstanding moral lives, or when even married couples on TV slept in twin beds? But is it really true that things are worse now than ever before? But someday, Christ will come back, and Eden will b...

In My Brain and Heart: The Importance of Memorizing Scripture – A Few Words

https://davidheffren.wordpress.com/2015/02/06/in-my-brain-and-heart-the-importance-of-memorizing-scripture

February 6, 2015. In My Brain and Heart: The Importance of Memorizing Scripture. Of Scripture. We don’t talk about memorizing Scripture very much these days. Even now as I think about “memorizing Bible verses,” it seems like something for children. Memory verses are relics of Sunday School and VBS. They’re not meant for adult believers, right? When I Lay Me Down to Sleep – A Few Words

https://davidheffren.wordpress.com/2015/05/24/when-i-lay-me-down-to-sleep

May 24, 2015. When I Lay Me Down to Sleep. I don’t always sleep very well at night, and if you are anything like me, you have nights that are similar. Sometimes it’s because I just can’t get comfortable: the room feels too hot or too cold, I get tangled up on the blankets, or the mattress just feels a little lumpy. Sometimes I can’t sleep because I’m. And yet, in spite of the danger we find in the psalm, we also find this verse couched in the middle: “I lay down and slept; I woke again,. Fill in your det...

Our Ignored Heritage – A Few Words

https://davidheffren.wordpress.com/2015/06/26/our-ignored-heritage

June 26, 2015. Recently I read this in a book by Scot McKnight: “Make a decision to know our story from Adam to the newest baptized Christian in your church. We need more of us to be curious about our ancestors” (. The King Jesus Gospel. P 156). This got me thinking: How well do I know the history of the church — this family of believers of which I am a member? How well do my fellow brothers and sisters know that history? Church History in Plain Language,. Aren’t we wasting a valuable resource if w...

Small Progressions: August 2011

http://kyletapper.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Taking small steps lead to big lives. Saturday, August 20, 2011. I had to work today. 630 AM- 330 PM. This is my schedule every other week. And it makes for a very long Saturday. And a short weekend. However, I have become acquainted with long work days. And today was just as normal as any other. At least until lunch. Over the last week, I've made it a point to eat lunch at home. I do this because it's cheaper, healthier, and mostly more enjoyable. But today was Saturday. A car screeched as another honked.

Small Progressions: March 2014

http://kyletapper.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Taking small steps lead to big lives. Monday, March 17, 2014. Today it seems nearly impossible to get any actual work done. This is bad because:. 1 I have a LOT to do. 2 Tomorrow we look at houses! 3 Wednesday I get a haircut. 4 Thursday I go to Phoenix. And I'm not going to do anything while I'm on vacation. Ok, maybe on my 3 hour plane ride but that's really only to look cool by pulling out my MacBook. Guys, my schedule is packed. When will I have time to get my work done? Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Small Progressions: Food for Thought

http://kyletapper.blogspot.com/2014/03/food-for-thought.html

Taking small steps lead to big lives. Saturday, March 8, 2014. Disclaimer: some of you might think this is ridiculous. FYI, you are wrong. Recently Sonja and I changed our diet. No, not because we were fat (although admittedly we each had a few pounds to lose). We simply wanted to eat better food. We watched a few food documentaries on Netflix ( Forks Over Knives. And that was a lot of fun. When you see your food from the seed to your mouth, you just feel great. That's a pretty sweet deal. And one th...

Small Progressions: Vegetarian Food

http://kyletapper.blogspot.com/2014/03/vegetarian-food.html

Taking small steps lead to big lives. Friday, March 14, 2014. One of the biggest knocks on eating vegetarian meals is that they aren't very filling. But here's whats great about vegetables: you can eat as many as you want! Get seconds. Want thirds? Get thirds. Seriously, eat as many vegetables as you want. You don't have to feel guilty about it. It's tremendous! Here's a couple things we gorged ourselves on this week:. They are wonderful. They have a southwest spice to it and goes great with some avo...

Small Progressions: January 2014

http://kyletapper.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Taking small steps lead to big lives. Tuesday, January 28, 2014. Well if you haven't heard by now, I no longer work at US Bank. As embarrassing as it is to admit, I was fired. I didn't steal money or quit going to work or cuss out a coworker or commit sexual harassment. I think all of those are episodes of either the Office or Seinfeld). My cash drawer was simply out of balance too many times for a management position. Did I mention I haven't worked there since early December? I've started doing P90X.
