UNICEF Tagd: October 2009
http://uniceftagd.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html
Friday, 30 October 2009. On October 24th, people in 181 countries came together for the most widespread day of environmental action in history. Over 5200 events took part in the 350. Campaign, calling for strong action and bold leadership on the climate crisis. My 350 Hand's Up! Event, held in Worcester town centre. Worcester Warriors, my local rubgy team, invited me to have a photo taken with a couple of their star players at the stadium before a match. They made me feel very short! On the 26th October,...

Jam Today | Diana Smith's Blog
https://dianamsmith.wordpress.com/jam-today
Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. I have been running a small business called Jam Today for about ten years. I make a wide range of jams, chutneys, marmalades and sauces which are available at Stafford Farmer’s market and in lots of local shops. Most of the fruit comes from local farms and sometimes I get involved in harvesting myself. My jam website, http:/ www.jamtoday.biz/. Is in need of a update. That is one of the jobs on the list! Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. The first bad news day. To say that I watch Andy Coulson would of course be misleading. The whole point about Andy Coulson is that he is someone we do not see, doing things that we do not know. I may not watch him, but since his appearance. Army Chief says I quit. Small item on Tories party on the eve of 6bn cuts. Now will Andrew throw her out? Osborne war on speed cameras. BA strike will hit Holidays. 500,000 sting shames Duchess of York.

We’re Going on Boar Hunt! | Diana Smith's Blog
https://dianamsmith.wordpress.com/2010/01/22/were-going-on-boar-hunt
Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. We’re Going on Boar Hunt! There were a series of things on the radio this morning that made me think about young men, and the place of boar hunting behaviour in politics. Then there was the upsetting case of the violent young brothers in Doncaster http:/ news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk politics/8473888.stm. It takes the arrogance of a young man to be able to make these claims, and of course they are not well founded. These are intractable problems, ...

Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. A Gimpse into a parallel universe. The Press Standards Committee meets the News of the World. I should have been doing the garden, or making jam, but finding the Press Standards committee questioning the News of the World on Phone tapping was irresistible. The full hearing of the committee can be viewed here. Http:/ www.parliamentlive.tv/Main/Player.aspx? Will we get sued? The paper also uses loose structures that make it very easy for its exec...

Open Democracy | Diana Smith's Blog
https://dianamsmith.wordpress.com/open-democracy
Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. I became a member of the Labour Party in 2007, after 30 years of thinking about it. I will tell you more about why I did this in my blogs in due course! Now that I am here, and an active member of Stafford Labour Party my own particular interest is in opening up the process of democracy and making sure that more people can contribute to informed decision making on some of the many difficult questions we face. Transition Town Stafford | Diana Smith's Blog
https://dianamsmith.wordpress.com/transition-town-stafford
Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. Transition Town Stafford is one of a number of “Transition Towns”, that are emerging throughout the world. Th idea behind “transition towns” is that the sources of cheap energy that we have all taken for granted are running out, and that we will all need to find ways to change to adapt to the pressures this will cause. An important part of the idea behind Transition towns is that this is a movement that everyone can become involved in. David Ki...

Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. Gordon Brown – the web as a power for good. Often we force our politicians to be heard only in soundbites. It is no wonder that we sometimes complain that they are saying nothing meaningful. This video is I think Gordon Brown speaking as he likes to speak, to a live audience, with his own voice and in his own time. January 23, 2010. Laquo; We’re Going on Boar Hunt! So What’s the worst that can happen? | Diana Smith's Blog
https://dianamsmith.wordpress.com/2010/01/18/so-whats-the-worst-that-can-happen
Diana Smith’s Blog. An unlikely mixture of politics and jam. So What’s the worst that can happen? I have just been picking up on a number of interesting things. Here is a chart of the priorities identified by the conservative party prospective candidates. This is to be found in Conservative Home. It is not surprising that concerns about the deficit come far higher up the list than measures to improve services. A bigger surprise is that the concerns about reducing the carbon footprint ranks quite so low.
