Windows AGiliTy is an interpreter for the old Adventure Game Toolkit (AGT). Although considered outdated and little used these days, AGT was popular in the late 1980s, and a community centered around Compuserve (a commercial bulletin board system popular before the Internet really took off) wrote a large number of games with it. AberMUD II

AberMUD II (or AberMUD 2) is an early multi-user dungeon game, written in Aberystwyth, Wales, in the late 1980s by Alan Cox (of Linux fame) and others. It is effectively a text adventure that more than one person can play at once, wandering around solving puzzles and attacking monsters (or, more frequently, each other). I've built and run it under FreeBSD. A Unix-like environment for Windows), and it should work under any other modern Unix, Linux or related system. Return to the main index.

Level9 is an interpreter for the games by the English text adventure company Level 9. These games received considerable critical acclaim at the time and are probably the best text adventures written for the small cassette based 8-bit computers common in Britain during the early to mid 1980s. The current version, Windows Level9 5.1. As can the source code and ports to systems other than Windows, in the Level9 interpreter section. Windows Frotz is an interpreter that can play all the old Infocom text adventures. Infocom used a novel approach to write their games: they had a system that produced a data file for the adventure that was the same on every computer, and an interpreter for every computer that could run all the games (It was actually a bit more complicated than that, but that's the basic idea). The current version, Windows Frotz 1.19. As can many games. (Also available are just the Windows Frotz files.

Magnetic

Magnetic is an interpreter for the games written between 1985 and 1991 by Magnetic Scrolls, a text adventure producer based in London, England. Although they only produced seven games they have acquired legendary status for text adventures of as good quality as Infocom accompanied by exceptional graphics. The Magnetic interpreter was written by Niclas Karlsson, with additional code by myself, Stefan Meier and Paul David Doherty. The current version, Windows Magnetic 2.3 Release 14.
