Stress your plants | David Moorman Landscape Design
https://davidmoormandesign.wordpress.com/2009/08/02/stress-your-plants
David Moorman Landscape Design. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Just the other day I received a panicked phone call from a client who is vacationing in Hawaii until mid-August. It seems a very conscientious neighbor of theirs called them to let them know that a few weeks ago there was a power outage in the area and that the grass and plants were dying. To be honest I would panic too! And yet this illustrates a valuable point when our automatic watering systems are set run everyday. From your own site.

David Moorman Landscape Design. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Happy New Year folks! Now, go get those pruning shears! Yep, that’s right go get those pruning shears and get busy….if you have roses that is. So in honor of the Rose Bowl and the Tournament of Roses Parade here’s a few tips on pruning roses. I can’t tell you who gave me this piece of advice when I first moved to the High Desert but someone gave me a tip that the best time to prune roses was right after the 1st of the year. Why? David Moorman Landscape Design. Just another WordPress.com weblog. Well it’s that time of year again……. This might seem odd coming from a blog about landscape design in the Mojave Desert of Southern California but it’s true….it’s time to break out the advise regarding winter care of the landscape. If you aren’t to familiar with the high desert of the Mojave here’s a quick overview. It’s hot in the summer and cold in the winter! Well, let’s just say I miss it already! Starting now in the late fall until j...

Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Are you looking for an interesting groundcover that requires reletively little care and yet provides good coverage and a great look? Time then to head out to your local nursery to find Lavender Cotton Santolina chamaecyparissu. David Moorman Landscape Design. Dave your articles really need some proof reading. David Moorman: July 2009
http://davidmoormandesign.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 29, 2009. There’s nothing wrong with a K.I.S.S. Yep, that’s right….Keep It Short and Simple or in my case anyway, Keep It Simple Stupid! This principle is the one area where I see most homeowners and yes, even designers such as myself, can generally and most oftentimes err. I have to include myself because I have fallen into the same trap of thinking I have to do more than is necessary on a number of occasions. So, I stepped away from the design. Gave it a day or two. And started ...Grant...

David Moorman: May 2010
http://davidmoormandesign.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html
Monday, May 31, 2010. This is such an easy plant to grow and care for; no fuss or muss.just add water! These plants can be used as either a small shrub as well as a ground cover but it is generally best to consider Mexican Evening Primroses a ground cover because they generally won't grow more than 18 inches tall but can, and will, spread 4 feet wide. Definitely keep this in mind when considering this plant for your garden. For a naturalistic look make sure to plant these among rocks or boulders. This sh...

David Moorman: Purple/Orchid Rockrose
http://davidmoormandesign.blogspot.com/2010/07/purpleorchid-rockrose.html
Friday, July 9, 2010. This is a plant that is at home in many different types of landscape styles from Mediterranean to Tropical. It can also be grown in a shrub border, in containers, or even on slopped sunny banks, at the base of a wall, or around paved areas. It is very versatile. It is because of this type of versatility that Rockroses make an excellent addition to any landscape. David Moorman Landscape Design. The Unreality of Reality TV II. Designing in the Desert. David Moorman: April 2010
http://davidmoormandesign.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 26, 2010. One common trait that most southwestern native shrubs share is that the flowers are generally very colorful and in most every case very interesting. Apache Plume, Fallugia paradoxa is no different. In fact, the plant produces a very unique flower structure that is full of interest and that must be seen to be truly appreciated. Talking about it just doesn't seem to do justice to the plant. So to recap if you would like a plant in your landscape that is full of color and of great in...

David Moorman: Spanish Broom
http://davidmoormandesign.blogspot.com/2010/07/spanish-broom.html
Wednesday, July 14, 2010. Spanish Broom is a perennial, evergreen shrub that is quite hardy (5 F) and will easily take the harsh extremes of the desert quite well. Sometimes this prolific grower is often mistaken for Scotch Broom, Cytisus scoparius, which just so happens to be another prolific grower! Because this is a plant that is great to use in specific applications! Spanish Broom is not picky about soil and will work in poor, rocky soils. Planting a Spanish Broom is as easy as digging a hole! Carbon...

David Moorman: The Unreality of "Reality" TV
http://davidmoormandesign.blogspot.com/2008/07/unreality-of-reality-tv.html
Wednesday, March 18, 2009. The Unreality of "Reality" TV. How many times have you seen them? You know what I'm talking about. Those reality TV shows where the host of the show talks and walks us through the complete installation of an entire landscape in just a scant 23 minutes? Have we stopped to think that behind the host, the “talking head” of the show so to speak, a literal army of producers and technicians stand at the ready to make everything go as smoothly as possible? Thanks to these shows many p...

David Moorman: January 2010
http://davidmoormandesign.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 31, 2010. I finally got an opportunity to watch “The Outdoor Room with Jamie Durie”. The premise was creating an Australian styled outdoor room for a home in Duarte, California. In order to do this Jaime flew back to Australia for design ideas and inspiration from some of his previous design installations. This notion alone bothered me immensely because, after all, the man is from Australia! I think it would be frankly. She managed to drive to three different supply centers/nurseries to f...

Thursday, July 29, 2010. The Unreality of "Reality" TV II. In The Unreality of “Reality TV". I wrote how these shows, while they are no doubt great for the landscape industry—specifically the design side of the industry—tend to, at times, give a rather distorted view of the overall time a project can take from start to finish. In our “fast food” way of life these days that can pose a challenge. Recently on a business networking web site. Bill from Texas wrote. Kyle from Arkansas wrote. 8220;I would like ...
