So far this has been a painfully slow migration in the yard–with multiple warbler species being found on only a couple days, and no vireos until today (Red-eyed–no migrants vireos at all). A Full Year of Hard Core Birding in One New Jersey Yard. 3 April–Spring is Sprung →. Monthly Update–March 2015. April 1, 2015. Fox Sparrow, new for the year list this month. At least one single bird seen daily for the last half of the month, and up to 3 seen on 31 March was a new yard high count. After a very tough February, I was happy to add 20 new birds for the year:. Merlin (2 Mar 2:30pm). Rock Pigeon (13 March 8:10am). Ring-necked Duck (13 March 8:40am). Fish Crow (16 March). Fox Sparrow (17 March).

A Full Year of Hard Core Birding in One New Jersey Yard. Dog Days of June →. June 6, 2015. It’s May, the migrants are back! Loving the daily Chimney Swift flyovers. But I did manage to add 36 new species to my backyard big year total, for a grand total of 138 yard birds for the year. Highlights were probably a male Bay-breasted Warbler. That moved quickly through the yard on May 6 and a Mourning Warbler. Mourning Warbler Nova Scotia regiolect song. And Eastern Wood Pewee. Dickcissel flight call, 28 May.

I’m not sure what they are, but sound almost flycatchery to me. Spectrograms are a hump shape peaking around 4-5kHz. Take a listen and see. After I got them on the bus, it took over an hour to finally get my 20 Bird Minimum Daily Requirement. Still able to meet that minimum, but some days it takes awhile! Here’s the list from the backyard this morning:. 8211;two birds actively calling and flying around the yard. One bird gleaning moths off the garage door. 8211;one bird calling.
