LAKESIDE SCHOOL GLOBAL SERVICE LEARNING. Two years ago Daweyu Hills began hosting high school students from Lakeside – an independent school in Seattle, Washington, USA – in Doi Mod village. Students spend a month doing home stays and working on various projects, including coffee planting, earth building, map making, and filming. A month of cross-cultural interaction gives an extraordinary opportunity for mutual understanding and respect, not to mention completion of service projects.

About the Lahu people. The Lahu Sheleh are one of many sub-groups of Lahu people. Study of their language (although there are no written records) has indicated that the Lahu are likely to have originated from the borderlands of Tibet and Burma, some thousand kilometers north of Thailand. Over the centuries they have fanned out to the south and east; Lahu are now settled in Thailand, Burma, Laos, Yunnan Province in China, and Vietnam.

Born and raised in Doi Mod, Namu is a cultural caretaker and is instrumental in organizing all of Daweyu Hills projects in the village by providing an invaluable link within the village community.
