Larry Go Round: Long Overdue Update
http://larrygoround.blogspot.com/2009/12/long-overdue-update.html
A pointless and dizzy endeavor. Wednesday, December 16, 2009. The Great Recession of 2009 caught up with my architectural/design company. And I was downsized last year. At the time, I was grateful for the time off to deal with my father's nursing home issues. Click here to continue reading this post-. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile.

Larry Go Round: May 2009
http://larrygoround.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html
A pointless and dizzy endeavor. Wednesday, May 20, 2009. For the past 3-4 weeks, the pond water temperature has been at least 50F degrees (these days it's close to 60F). At these temps, it was safe to release the 9 goldfish that spent the winter in our basement utility room. Amazingly, there were 2 goldfish that spent the winter in the frozen pond itself, where temps bottomed out at -21F. They seemed none the worse for wear when we added their compatriots back into the pond. This Spring, the pond bottom ...

Dear Old Dad- Extra: Happy Anniversary!
http://dodextra.blogspot.com/2009/12/happy-anniversary.html
Dear Old Dad- Extra. Thursday, December 31, 2009. It's been one year since Dad was taken by ambulance to St. John's Hospital, where he was determined to have dementia and require 24-hour nursing supervision, and then ultimately admitted as a resident in the Memory Care unit at the VA Medical Center in St. Cloud. Despite his underlying heart condition and ongoing diabetes! Thanks to the VA, Dad is now in the best physical condition he could be in- much better than he could be if he remained at home. For h...

Dear Old Dad- Extra: Revisiting the Issues
http://dodextra.blogspot.com/2010/02/revisiting-issues.html
Dear Old Dad- Extra. Sunday, February 28, 2010. Many of the topics discussed in this blog are ongoing stories- they refuse to end. This is where I'd like to revise and extend my remarks, or just merely add more thoughts and information to the original report. On Junk Mail and Mass-Marketing. To go to the original blog entry-. Their solicitations in the hopes of getting their customer to part with some more money. The charities take a more accusatory tone- "Why haven't we heard from you? The most valuable...

Dear Old Dad- Extra: No News Is Good News
http://dodextra.blogspot.com/2010/03/no-news-is-good-news.html
Dear Old Dad- Extra. Saturday, March 13, 2010. No News Is Good News. Actually, there is a little bit of news, but the title of this post will make sense as you read on. Dad's alertness comes and goes- he lives within a fog of awareness, most of which is caused by Dementia and drug treatments, but it doesn't help when he doesn't wear his hearing aids or glasses! If you forget these things and expect more than Dad can deliver. Back to Dear Old Dad. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Dear Old Dad- Extra: Working the Plan
http://dodextra.blogspot.com/2009/05/working-plan.html
Dear Old Dad- Extra. Tuesday, May 12, 2009. My brother and I continue to work in our respective areas as conservators of Dad’s possessions and finances. As of mid-May, much work has been done, and more is still needed, but we are making progress. As of now, the Plan we devised to fix Dad’s financial troubles and to clean and sell his home is proceeding on schedule. There are some small, incremental expenses that Dad is responsible for at the VA. We maintain a "Patient's Fund" where he can draw pocket...

Dear Old Dad- Extra: Adventures in Marketing - Senior Edition
http://dodextra.blogspot.com/2009/05/adventures-in-marketing-senior-edition.html
Dear Old Dad- Extra. Saturday, May 9, 2009. Adventures in Marketing - Senior Edition. In handling the mail of my father-in-law, I have seen amazing amounts of direct-mail marketing pieces that are aimed at the military veteran and/or the senior sector. The volume of mail is huge- he gets upward of 20 pieces of direct mail each day. A lot of these direct mailings have envelopes that are designed to look like things that they are not – a letter from the federal government, your insurance company, a f...
