Friday, March 27, 2009. America - are we losing our moral compass? I almost titled this post "America - have we lost our moral compass? But I am trying to maintain some sense of optimism. But boy, sometimes it's hard. Three stories on "The Today Show" this morning made me seriously contemplate the answer to this question:. 1) Politicians in Washington who were publicly railing against financial firms who were bailed out are taking PAC contributions from the same firms to the tune of thousands of dollars.

Derek Speed's blog: Cloud computing's great - if you trust the cloud...

http://derekspeed.blogspot.com/2008/10/cloud-computings-great-if-you-trust.html

Friday, October 24, 2008. Cloud computing's great - if you trust the cloud. I spent two days doing booth duty at Mobile Internet World in Boston this week. It was kind of a lame show in terms of traffic but I did get to talk to some interesting people. One guy I talked to jogged my memory about a topic that has been bugging me recently - cloud computing. Proponents of cloud computing will say #2 is a feature, not a bug. And while I agree that it is very convenient, it is also very dangerous. The third pr...

http://derekspeed.blogspot.com/2008/11/another-blast-from-past-netbooks.html

Friday, November 21, 2008. Another blast from the past - netbooks. One of the benefits of having been in the computer industry for over 25 years is to see old ideas packaged in a slightly different way and laugh at people who think it is a new idea. A great example is the "netbook", the new darling of my employer and a lot of other people in the computer industry. While people quibble of the particulars, here are some of the characteristics of netbooks:. Small, light and portable computers. Another diffe...

Derek Speed's blog: August 2008

http://derekspeed.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 21, 2008. Is it too much to ask? I consider myself to be a pretty tolerant person but maybe I'm not - I'll let you judge for yourself after reading this post. I guess we all have a view of ourselves that may or may not match others' view of reality. So, let me start my rant - is it too much to ask that if you live in America you learn our frickin' language? Why is it that people come to this country and make no effort whatsoever to assimilate into our culture or learn our language?

Derek Speed's blog: March 2007

http://derekspeed.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 7, 2007. The power of open source software. Open source software is an intensely debated subject within a lot of companies, especially big ones. While Intel has strong relationships with Apple and Microsoft, two companies who deliver a lot of closed source software, we have embraced open source software and Linux in a big way. Other major companies like IBM have done the same because the understand the power of open source. But in the end, the real value of open source software is the ab...

Derek Speed's blog: Colin Powell sealed the deal for me

http://derekspeed.blogspot.com/2008/10/colin-powell-sealed-deal-for-me.html

Monday, October 20, 2008. Colin Powell sealed the deal for me. Well, on Sunday, one of my heroes, Colin Powell, sealed the deal for me by endorsing Barack Obama for president. Anyone who doubts Obama's credentials to be Commander-In-Chief has to be having second thoughts after the Powell endorsement. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Cloud computings great - if you trust the cloud. Colin Powell sealed the deal for me. One of the many joys of autumn in New England. Sarah Palin - all sizzle, no steak.

What is the Bible? What is the Bible to you? That's a very important question. I firmly believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God, divinely spoken to men so that they may write down what God's message for his creation is. Why do I bring this up? On KISW 99.9. April 14, 2014. I had the pleasure of a track day at Buttonwillow a while back put together by some of my LeMons friends. We had variety of cars, for Mustangs to Porsches show up, but by far the most prevalent car manufacture represented was Lotus. I was the sole Audi, but the highlight of the day was the LMPC car that showed up to test for Sebring. Here are a few shots of the day. SmugMug feed was successfully retrieved, but no photos found.
