Here at the Derwentwater Arms we are very proud of the local suppliers we use, and try to keep it as local as possible. Gary Hancock is our butcher here, and has been for many years. All his meat is of excellent quality and sourced as local as possible. In fact, he rears some of his own cows, which can occasionally be seen through our conservatory windows. The Derwentwater Arms has been established since 1708. It was then called the Newburgh Arms after the earl of Newburgh, from the Hassop Estate. The first landlord was John Gregory. He was the landlord here for 39 years before his wife took over after his death. In 1919 the Hassop Estate and most of Calver was sold and the Derwentwater Arms was purchased by Chesterfield Brewery Co, which amalgamated with Mansfield Brewary in 1934. Our wines are provided to us from Le Bon Vin, who specially select their wines through caring producers who use nature friendly techniques. See our wine list. Our well kept ales are a mixture of local and national ales. Bakewell Best and Adnams Ale are our staple here at the Derwentwater, we also have a regularly changing pump which switches between local and national ales, depending on what our customers request.
