Sarah Wallace: "Crossing" from Lost Names
http://wallaceworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/crossing-from-lost-names.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2008. Crossing" from Lost Names. I thought this first story was pretty interesting. It was not at all what I had been expecting though. I expected it to be kind of like Things Fall Apart. Where there are like mini stories that all tie together to make one novel. However, that doesn't seem to be the case for Lost Names. From what I understand, each story is about the same family, just at different times in their life. May 20, 2008 at 3:11 PM. Often in Asia, names are not used but instead...

World History: TGOST Ch. 9 & 10
http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-9-10.html
TGOST Ch. 9 and 10. Present day, Rahel is watching toads, yet another "small thing" as she thinks about the day that she, Estha, and Sophie Mol went to visit Velutha, and how good he treated them. She mentioned that he was nothing like the parents, that he did not judge them or anything. He was just himself, and he let everyone be themselves also. The "Small things" definitely reoccur throughout the novel. (toads, bugs, etc). June 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). TGOST ch 5 and 6.

World History: TGOST Ch. 7 & 8
http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-7-8.html
TGOST Ch. 7 and 8. There is a lot of talk about insects at the end of chapter 6 and the beginning of chapter 7. The author makes a note of a lot of the little things in the story, like bugs. I suppose that is why the book is called The God of Small Things. At the beginning of Chapter 7, Rahel is looking through Pappachi's study for things that her and Estha had when they were children. Estha just stands by the door and watches his sister. June 1, 2008 at 12:33 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

World History: TGOST Ch. 17 & 18
http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008/05/tgost-ch-17-18.html
TGOST Ch. 17 and 18. Estha is sitting on his bed watching Rahel sleep, which is kind of weird, but it reminds him of his mother. He ironed Rahel's clothes for her, which I thought was kind of weird. Even though I do not personally believe this, I thought that would be seen as a woman's job, and Rahel would have ironed Estha's clothes, not the other way around. June 1, 2008 at 1:09 PM. World History: May 2008
http://samworldhistory.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
TGOST Ch. 21 and Final Review. All I have to say is, It's about time! I have been waiting for Ammu and Velutha to get together and have an affair. They even came right out and said it earlier, I just didn't know when it was coming. It took the whole story though. They focus on the small things when they meet, like the small insects (bugs, again? Jeez) and each others' bodies. I thought the Tomorrow? TGOST Ch. 19 and 20. I really do not like baby at all! TGOST Ch. 17 and 18. Estha is sitting on his bed wa...

Sarah Wallace: Sold (202-end) and Final Thoughts
http://wallaceworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/sold-202-263.html
Saturday, May 10, 2008. Sold (202-end) and Final Thoughts. I wonder if the other girls ever got out? I do not see why they could not have taken down the entire operation. Is prostitution not illegal in India? I guess some people probably listen while others do not. Even awareness campaigns would be helpful. I doubt that many people are aware of how large an industry this really is. Something definitely needs to be done so that others do not suffer from this. If not, where is she now? I think she saw what...

Sarah Wallace: "Homecoming"--Lost Names
http://wallaceworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/homecoming-lost-names.html
Wednesday, May 7, 2008. While the class was outside for a break (kind of like our recess? I know I probably would. Yet for some reason, he is still excited about going to school. I wonder if he will later change his mind, or if he will always like school? Yeah, the teacher beating up the kid was a shocker, but it also sets the tone for how much the Korean's take pride in staying Korean. They won't give up their identity no matter what. Luckily there were some good teachers who stepped in.

Sarah Wallace: Sold (52-101)
http://wallaceworldcultures.blogspot.com/2008/05/sold-51-101.html
Saturday, May 10, 2008. It's amazing how many times she is sold and re-sold, and you really get a feel for how evolved this network is for human trafficking. Lakshmi is so innocent and has no idea where she's heading off to. I think they kind of bank on that. Mumtaz is pure evil, and uses these girls like disposable tools. She doesn't hesitate to throw girls out on the street who can no longer serve her needs. This book gives a good account of just how cheap life is viewed in India. Very sad.
