I was accosted by a glassy-eyed grandmother while sizing up a couple of roadside buffalo. I tried persistent polite declinations sandwiched by humble gratitude, knowing that soon I was likely going to feel awkwardly mute, but inebriation is persistent and I was sober. Initially it meant that all shops and schools were closed. The roads were closed to all motorized vehicles, only bicycles and rickshaws were permitted to pass.
