A Taste of Earth

A Taste of Earth. NURTURING ABUNDANCE and INSPIRATION ON OUR FARM IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE. January 25, 2014. From Vision into Action. I have a week with the girls whilst Flo is in England. It feels like a good opportunity to consolidate loose ends, catch up on emails and focus on our written work. Our handful of veg boxes last year attracted a solid core of supporters and showed us that even with existing schemes in the area, there is a hunger for more. We will plan for forty shares (each calculated ...

A Taste of Earth: December 2012

http://www.digginganddreaming.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

A Taste of Earth. NURTURING ABUNDANCE and INSPIRATION ON OUR FARM IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE. December 11, 2012. Snow Dunes and Silence. October’s snow lasted just a short while and was followed by a good run of crisp autumnal days and chilly nights. But now, the snow has arrived for good. The farm has lost all its contours and distinguishing features. From the moment you step out of the door, a sea of white dominates the view with only larger objects like the greenhouse or the linden trees retaining th...

A Taste of Earth: October 2012

http://www.digginganddreaming.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

A Taste of Earth. NURTURING ABUNDANCE and INSPIRATION ON OUR FARM IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE. October 29, 2012. This week brought a sudden and very surprising change. We had all adjusted well to bright blue skies by day followed by fresh chilly evenings and cold nights. We had also tolerated a few days of rather English grey. But then, with very little warning (on the eve of the weekend) it snowed. It continued to snow for the whole day. On the first day of snow the chickens don't even venture out of their ...

A Taste of Earth: Making Time

http://www.digginganddreaming.blogspot.com/2013/10/making-time.html

A Taste of Earth. NURTURING ABUNDANCE and INSPIRATION ON OUR FARM IN THE MIDDLE OF EUROPE. October 14, 2013. It has been a ridiculously long time since I have posted. I am sad not to have found more time for it, but that is also an indication of how busy the summers have become. It is now very definitely in the past, with autumn in full throttle, the trees on fire with colour and the animals on heat. Another quirky addition to our motley crew are seven Indian Running ducks! Let the dreaming continue (whi...

Making and Living: Summer shorts

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014/08/summer-shorts.html

Monday, August 11, 2014. Oh Dear, it has really been too long this time! We have been so busy building our house that I haven't had time for. Anything else. Last week I had a few spear moments and as promised, I made my big girl some shorts for her birthday. When I say big girl I really mean BIG, she has just turned 9. I can't believe how fast they grow sometimes. I used the Oliver S patten:. Class picnic blouse shorts. I hope she doesn't grow too fast so that these shorts will fit her for a while. Prese...

Making and Living: January 2015

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

Tuesday, January 27, 2015. It's been so long since I have posted anything here, I have been too busy with work, house building and family life. But, I have had some time here and there to sew. I have had a lot of fun recently making all sorts of things from dresses, skirts to a baby sleeping bag and hot-water-bottle covers (posts to follow). Here are the skirts I made. I used a really good free patten from StraightGrain. The fabric in the photo above is. The third skirt I made was for the girls cousin's ...

Making and Living: July 2013

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

Friday, July 12, 2013. So I abandoned the pattern and tried to work it out on my own. I got there in the end but it was not what I really wanted. The waistband was too big and the skirt kept falling down. I decided to take it apart and started again. This time I used big red elastic for the waistband and just sewed on the fabric. It was very easy and it looks really nice. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Follow Making and Living by Email. Visit Rowan's profile on Pinterest. Winter in a Yurt.

Making and Living: September 2013

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 16, 2013. It's that time of year again when there is an abundance of fruit, berries and vegetables. I have been very busy making jams and preserves with everything and anything I can find. We went berry picking in the forest the other day and came back with a kilo of blueberries and a kilo of blackberries. It is a joy to be able to go for a walk and come back with such delights. I made more blueberry jam, and I picked some raspberries to go with blackberries and made a very.

Saturday, May 10, 2014. For the pastry;. First make the pastry by mixing the butter and sugar. Until smooth, then add the flour and egg yokes. Mix. Well but not for too long, it might be easier to do this with your hands. Make a ball from the pastry and put it in the fridge for later. For the filling;. 150g maple syrup (or syrup of choice). 100g halved pecans for on top. Melt the chocolate and the butter together and let it cool for a bit. Mix the eggs. Links to this post. Making and Living: Fabric and Pillows

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014/01/fabric-and-pillows.html

Thursday, January 30, 2014. So I was happy to know I didn't need to buy so much there and then. I bought two pieces of fabric, one has retro telephones and flowers and the other has everything from hearts, birds, flowers to windmills and hot air balloons. But I really fell in love with this fabric because it has a little horse on it that looks just. Like a Scandinavian wooden toy horse the girls have. I used some green edging for around the opening and then sewed on little button to keep it closed. Spieg...

Making and Living: Orange Marmalade

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2014/03/orange-marmalade.html

Tuesday, March 25, 2014. A few weeks ago we got. A box of Organic Oranges from a friend. I was very happy with them and made lots of fresh orange juice for the girls. I thought about making. With the peel but then I had a better idea to make Orange Marmalade. I have made it before with a friend but it turned out slightly too sour and didn’t really stiffen. So the aim this time was to make it a bit sweeter and to try and get it to set. 1 kilo of good quality oranges. Definitely turned out better than last...

Making and Living: March 2013

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Saturday, March 30, 2013. This truly feels like a never ending winter. Its been so cold for so long now, and in the yurt it has been quite cold in the mornings. We are all absolutely looking forward to some warmer weather. Today I made a little spring table in the hope that it might inspire the spring to come. The other day the girls and I each painted one of our chickens eggs to hang on the spring table. We had a lot of fun and they brighten up our cold mornings. Links to this post. Things I have made.

Making and Living: April 2013

http://makingandliving.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Monday, April 22, 2013. I just love spring, its my favourite season and after such a long winter we are really enjoying the warm sunny weather. The girls and I have been very busy planting and sowing vegetables and playing outside in the garden. I planted potato's and onions and sowed carrots outside and the girls sowed pumpkins, courgettes and cucumbers in pots. We put them in the greenhouse and are waiting for them to grow. Next job is the herb garden! Links to this post. Monday, April 15, 2013. Nettle...

Digging a Bit Deeper

Digging a Bit Deeper. Monday, December 31, 2012. Of another year. Unfortunately, I'm getting so forgetful I can't even remember the highlights of this year, but then, I can't remember the lowlights, either! We took a couple of fun trips, I do know that, one to San Juan Capistrano, and one to Cancun. Great times with brothers and sisters! The main one must be to speak up for what I want, and what I don't want. What do I want? Sunday, December 30, 2012. Someone wrote that there are actually 27 because the ...

Digging . and yet more digging. Thursday, 10 April 2014. So now we know the truth. Strawberry and redcurrant meringue pie - do you like it? In true Masterchef tradition it will take 15 minutes (for the meringue to cook). Younger son (16): it looks like a big tart. Who are you calling a big tart? Should have been gert lush, she is Bristolian after all). OH: It was okay. What was it supposed to be? Why do I bother? Friday, 28 March 2014. Yesterday evening I first saw the story of Ratzilla.
