Strawberry party anxiety | Digestive Librarians' Digest

Brain food, not for zombies. Digestive Librarians' Digest. In case you missed it, Canada Day was a few weekends ago! Canada Day is A Big Deal here in Ottawa, something I wasn’t really prepared for until I moved here five years ago. People in the National Capital Region take Canada Day very seriously; even the people who would never venture onto the Hill for the celebrations. But I was still a little self-conscious. And a pie (pastry? Getting to the heart of the matter. Never have strawberries been hucked...

What I Ate On My Summer Vacation | Digestive Librarians' Digest

Brain food, not for zombies. Digestive Librarians' Digest. What I Ate On My Summer Vacation. I hope that a publisher realizes how great it is and offers her a cookbook deal stat. Since Annie and I don’t live in the same city anymore, we rarely cook together these days, and cooking seemed like the perfect thing to do on my last night in Toronto. With the house to ourselves, we made a feast of mushroom ravioli with pesto with a side of roasted yellow peppers. The mushrooms were magnificent. I don’t know wh...

Mabo dofu plus…natto! | Chez Yusuke

https://chezyusuke.wordpress.com/2015/01/11/mabo-dofu-plus-natto

Mabo dofu plus…natto! January 11, 2015 at 2:34 pm · Filed under tofu. I’ve written about mabo dofu. That is, spicy tofu, also transliterated as mapo doufu) before, because it’s so darn tasty. The origins are Szechwanese, but it’s a very popular dish in Japan. Those slippery, pungent fermented soybeans. Along with the mushrooms, they provided a perfect texture and layering of umami. Yusuke pretty much followed his usual recipe (quantities are approximate):. 1/4 tsp minced ginger. 1/4 tsp minced garlic.

March 15, 2015 at 8:24 pm · Filed under pancakes. 183;Tagged bell pepper. Cooking and eating still happen chez Yusuke, just not much blogging. Our stovetop was out of commission for a while, so a new grill/griddle was acquired. Here are some action shots. Rel="bookmark" title="Permanent link to Grillin’" class="permalink" Permalink. Wine bottle | Chez Yusuke

January 9, 2015 at 8:32 pm · Filed under Misc. Yes, it’s true, I judge wines (as well as books) by their labels. This was a very lovely chardonnay from the Great Southern (Western Australia). Natto and okra | Chez Yusuke

https://chezyusuke.wordpress.com/2010/02/27/natto-and-okra

February 27, 2010 at 6:27 am · Filed under general veggie dish. This dish is pretty much the definition of ネバネバ (neba neba)—the experience of eating something slippery and sticky. A Google image search. Might further elucidate the concept. Combined here are two quintessentially neba neba items, natto and okra. Others include nameko mushrooms and tororo, which is made from grated nagaimo (a potato). Just for fun, I pasted a previous mention of tororo below. See more about neba neba this page. Natto is usu...

New Year’s Eve soba: goodbye 2014 | Chez Yusuke

https://chezyusuke.wordpress.com/2015/01/04/new-years-eve-soba-goodbye-2014

New Year’s Eve soba: goodbye 2014. January 4, 2015 at 7:55 pm · Filed under pasta and noodles. I almost forgot to post, but for the sake of documentation, here is the soba with which we farewelled 2014. We also finished off our Stella Bella Chardonnay (Margaret River) and joined the revelry in Northbridge Piazza. Time flies like an arrow. Tama-miso | Chez Yusuke

https://chezyusuke.wordpress.com/2015/03/15/tama-miso

March 15, 2015 at 8:29 pm · Filed under Misc. This is really sort a note to self, since I always forget how I’m supposed to make this much beloved salty eggy sauce (eaten over rice). Tamago miso, or tama-miso for short. Combine as one would when making miso soup, but the end product should be saltier and thicker. The ingredients should be added in the order above. The eggs thicken gradually and should be stirred throughout the operation. Mabo dofu plus…natto! Say Yes to Salad. Follow Blog via Email.

The great tofu-making adventure | Chez Yusuke

https://chezyusuke.wordpress.com/2011/04/02/the-great-tofu-making-adventure

The great tofu-making adventure. April 2, 2011 at 9:12 pm · Filed under tofu. Tofu, tofu, what joy you bring me. As I mentioned before. The closest replica to Japanese silken tofu that we’ve been able to find in Canada is no longer carried at our local grocery store. And the overall selection chez nous is just pathetically lacking. For newer readers, I wrote about tofu in general in a previous post. In Kyoto. A few sample pictures appear here. Here are the general steps followed:. Wait until the tofu sets.

Tofu making: the fail episode | Chez Yusuke

https://chezyusuke.wordpress.com/2015/01/05/tofu-making-the-fail-episode

Tofu making: the fail episode. January 5, 2015 at 9:47 am · Filed under tofu. The great tofu making adventure of 2011. Was successful, if messy, and it seemed like high time to try again. The steps were pretty much the same in this episode:. Buy soy beans from the grocery store (dried). Soak overnight. 300g soy beans in 1 litre of water. Drain the beans and purée in the blender. Boil the purée with more water. Cook until there is no more green /raw smell, about 10 minutes. Add nigari* and mix quickly.

Tuesday, November 25, 2008. Week 13 Reading Notes. Lynch: Where Do We Go from Here? The bulk of programmatic government funding for digital libraries has tapered, except for research involving defense, intelligence and homeland security. Money is being directed at digital asset management, institutional repositories, and creating new collections. Lynch writes, "The lion's share of the NSF funding went to computer science groups, with libraries often being only peripherally involved, if at all." I won...
