Thoughts on dealing with technology, and the spiritual fatigue caused thereby. Thursday, March 31, 2005. Mini by name, maxi by nature. I bought my first Mac mini recently: unfortunately I didn't get to keep it, but I can confirm it's an amazing bit of kit. A support client, who I had just helped move into serviced offices in the City, phoned me up one morning to report that his PC was making a funny noise, and was asking him to insert the boot floppy; did I have one handy? It's truly amazing, this tiny b...

Thoughts on dealing with technology, and the spiritual fatigue caused thereby. Wednesday, April 13, 2005. A house in Africa. Just spoke to my Mom who is back home in Johannesburg: it seems my parents are finding the big old house a bit too big and have put it on the market (chokes back a sob). But if you're interested in seeing what you can get for less than 300k in South Africa, have a look at this. Posted by Stephen West at 6:15 pm. Tuesday, April 12, 2005. Puts the squeeze on. BatFlattery: August 2005

Thoughts on dealing with technology, and the spiritual fatigue caused thereby. Monday, August 22, 2005. What do you call it when a group of people are uprooted from land which they have lived on for many years, land which was empty, a desert, when they arrived to live there, land which they have transformed, land which they must now leave, because of their religion and ethnicity? We stand at an interpretive divide. If Israel's critics are right, the Gaza withdrawal will improve Palestinian attitudes ...

Thoughts on dealing with technology, and the spiritual fatigue caused thereby. Tuesday, May 17, 2005. I got the MS blues. Wow, I hate using Windows. It just seems so clumsy and irritating compared to OS X. Every time I need to find a file with the retarded Windows Explorer, I look for the Spotlight button- and then remember that I have to find the file myself, hunting through folder after annoying folder. Thoughts on dealing with technology, and the spiritual fatigue caused thereby. Wednesday, June 23, 2004. How to sell music online. As I mentioned in my first post, Apple recently launched the iTunes Music Store in Europe, an addition to iTunes that I have been awaiting impatiently ever since I got my iPod last year. Apple have just announced that they sold over 800,000 songs in the first week of operation. Now why would that be? Another click buys the song, downloading it instantly to your music library,...

And is trying to subvert. What are you smoking, lady? Go and read Phillip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" trilogy. Read it and weep. That's. Subverting the genre. What you. Please. You have to know a genre to do that, and you didn't even finish Lord of the Rings! More "earthy, salty and real" than Lord of the Rings? The g...

Thoughts on dealing with technology, and the spiritual fatigue caused thereby. Tuesday, February 08, 2005. You wanna keep your music? You gotta pay protection. Over at the excellent Daring Fireball John Gruber reports. On a disturbing issue: it seems that a lot of people do not realise that music downloaded on the Napster To Go service is only available for as long as you maintain your subscription to the service. If you cancel your subscription, you lose all your music. Posted by Stephen West at 9:02 am.
