Looking down from the roof to the central courtyard. There’s a wire cage to save me in case I decide to jump. The roof terrace isn’t the best, but that tower in the center belongs to the oldest college in Africa. They let Maimonides teach there, even though he was Jewish. I guess a lot could be forgiven with famous philosophers back then. Room in the Medina.

These boats went out at night, but during the day some of the fishermen mended their nets.

How much mint tea is too much? May 31, 2008. This is a serious question, because I’m drinking the stuff like it’s water. I don’t think it has any caffeine, and rumor has it that mint is very good on one’s belly. Still, is there some sort of tipping point with mint? A Pair of Babouche. June 7, 2008. These traditional Moroccan shoes are called babouche. They are basically pointed leather slippers. Babouche are worn by both men and women. In Fez, yellow is the masculine color, and women’s babouche come in any color but yellow. They are normally worn just indoors, but you occasionally see them worn outdoors as well. I just had to buy a pair. I bought the highest quality: fine lamb skin on the inside and out, and no visible stitches or seems. They ran me about $14.

June 9, 2008. Perhaps the Romans just couldn’t take the heat. It was a mind-numbing 47 degrees celsius when I visited these ruins. That’s 116.6 American degrees. Only the storks didn’t mind the heat.
