Jump up in hierarchy. Jump down to links. It produces stunning landscapes with a simple interface and amazing flexibility. It's main weakness is that it is a 16-bit application, and is thus somewhat slow. However, the results are worth it. Note the commercial version is the good one - the demo produces inferior results due to its lack of support of transparency and reflection and limited resolution. Vue d'Esprit has recently been upgraded to version 2! Version of this image was submitted to the IRTC.

Despite the somewhat intimidating nature of POV's text-interface, it really is not difficult to start producing worthwhile results, and substantial precision offered by its format makes it the class of the object renderers reviewed here. Most entrants in The Internet Ray Tracing Competition. Use POV-Ray, and for now it is my renderer of choice. Jump up in hierarchy. For terrains, Vue. Is better. For objects, POV-Ray. Is better. For a combination, POV-Ray is also better. Thus, I've removed most of the pictures which were in this gallery. This was my first success at importing an object from Ray Dream Studio 5 using the OBJ format. This is yet another example of a deserted isle rendering.

Crystal Graphics Impact 3d Pro. Jump up in hierarchy. This an excellent but more limited package. It produces quite stunning results easily, but is not a general purpose modeller, focusing instead on simple extrusions (including text) and their animation. Still, what it does it does.
